David Kimball Sharretts, son of Eleanor Kimball Sharretts of
Lunenburg, VT and Charles Roland Sharretts II of
Baltimore, MD died peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Compass Hospice Care in
Centreville, MD.
Born in Baltimore, his family moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland when he was two years old. He attended The Peddie School ('52) and Princeton University ('56). While at Peddie, David was a scholar-athlete winning numerous awards including the Babe Ruth Foundation Sportsmanship Award and played on the school's New Jersey State Championship soccer team. After graduating from Princeton, he served two years in the Army of the United States in Verdun, France. Returning to the United States, he married his wife of 66 loving years, Judith Lee Coleman. At that time, he was employed by Patapsco Engineering Company in Baltimore.
Approached by David A. Bramble in 1960 with a Trust Agreement as to the incorporation of an Asphalt Producing Plant and with a handshake, he made his decision to move his career to the Eastern Shore. Under his direction, the asphalt division of the company prospered and won many Maryland and Federal awards for quality roads including the Sheldon Hayes Award for the Best Road in the United States. He served on the National Asphalt Pavement Association Board of Directors, the Chair of the Technical Committee and on the Finance Committee. He was President of the Maryland Asphalt Pavement Association for three terms.
David was an early supporter of Kent School Inc., serving as a Trustee and as the first President of the Parents and Friends Association. He was also keenly interested in youth sports serving as coach for several teams and President of Church League basketball for many years.
A longtime member of the Chester River Yacht and Country Club, he served as President and Greens and Grounds Chairman for a number of years. He was directly involved in the building of a second nine-hole golf course, cart paths and a remodel of the club house, making Chester River Yacht and Country Club an eighteen-hole club.
A lifelong member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, he served as Senior Warden on several occasions and chaired the Investment Committee for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Judith, his daughter, Wendy Sharretts Moore (Michael), of
Rock Hall, MD and son Timothy David Sharretts (Andrea) of
Derry, NH. Grandchildren: Megan Moore Dunne (BJ) of Boston, MA, Kaitlyn Moore Kessler (Josh) of Albuquerque, NM, Emily Catherine Sharretts of
Derry, NH and Matthew Timothy Sharretts of
Derry, NH. Great grandchildren: Ford Robert Dunne, Adelaide Lee Kessler and Miles Wolf Dunne, and his brother Charles Roland Sharretts III of
Salisbury, MD.
Services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chestertown on March 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM with a reception immediately following.
