Raymond Rich Obituary

Raymond G. Rich
Palmyra - Raymond G Rich of Jacksonville, formerly Palmyra, died February 10, 2026 in Jacksonville, IL.
He was born March 3, 1933 in Barr Township in rural Hettick, the son of John and Ruth (Ribble) Rich. He married Nancy J. Lawson on October 27, 1956 in Roodhouse. She preceded Raymond in death August 11, 2019.
Also surviving are two children, Dr. Michael (Lori) Rich of Prior Lake, MN and Lisa Rich of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Nathan Rich, Aaron (Kara) Rich and Clinton (Tressa) Everetts; three great grandchildren, Paisley Everetts, Pruitt Everetts, and Natalie Rich; one brother, Harold (Verna) Rich of Carlinville; and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard Rich and Carl Rich and a sister, Florence Gross.
Raymond was a 1950 graduate of Greenfield High School. He was drafted into the US Army in 1954 and spent two years achieving the level of a 3-star sergeant. He spent two years in the Reserves following his discharge. After marriage, Raymond spent a few months working at Mrs. Tucker's plant in Jacksonville, IL. He was then hired at Macoupin County FS where he spent the next 38 years working as a petroleum salesman and then as a propane salesman. Raymond and Nancy purchased the local grocery store in 1978 and began operating Rich's Grocery for the next 30 years closing in 2008. Raymond was active in the Palmyra community serving many years as a volunteer fireman, many years as the fire chief and driver for the ambulance service.
Raymond was a member and active participant of the Palmyra Christian Church. He served in many roles over his 60 years in attendance. Raymond loved the Lord and lived his life to serve Him and honor Him.
Raymond loved his family and spending time with his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Raymond was known for his great personality and contagious smile. Raymond lived a humble life never seeking praise or recognition. His greatest fulfillment in life was unselfishly providing for his family. His life should be a reminder that richness is not found in what we accumulate but, in the relationships, we cherish and the love we share.
A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Palmyra Christian Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Palmyra Christian Church or Northwestern Rescue Squad both c/o Stutlts-Neece Chapel 349 Tanner, Waverly, IL 62692.
