Larry Prough, age 78, of Carrollton, Il. died early Thursday (February 26, 2026) at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Il.

He was born November 13, 1947, in Carrollton, Il. son of the late Melvin and Dorothy

Trusty Prough.

He married Cathy Cory on November 20, 1971, in Carrollton, Il. and she survives.

Also surviving are his children, Michelle Cox (Jim) of Carrollton, Il., and Carrie Hill (Brian) of Godfrey, Il.; three grandchildren, Garrett Cox, Brady Cox (fiancée Isabella Ricci), and Gabby Hill; siblings, Jim Prough of Arenzville, Il., and Peggy White (Bill) of Ashland, Il.: and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was precded in death by a daughter, Kelly Jo Prough.

He was a graduate of Greenfield High School and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale graduating with a degree in Ag Economics and continued graduate studies at SIU. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and received National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter M-16. He worked for Illinois Grain Corporation in Bloomington, Il. as a grain merchandiser. He returned to Greene County in 1977 and began farming grain and livestock, farming for 48 years. He loved bowling and was in leagues in Roodhouse, Jerseyville, and Winchester. He was an avid trapper, and loved sports, especially watching his grandkids participate in their activities. Larry was a huge Greenfield Tigers fan and fan of the Fighting Illini.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday (March 3, 2026) at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, Il. Burial with military rites will be in Carrollton City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Macoupin Center for the Developmentally Disabled and sent to Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 108 5th St. Carrollton, Il. 62016. Condolences may be sent to the family online www.airsman-hires.com.
