Donna Jean Waters passed away at her residence on Thursday (February 19, 2026).

She was born on July 16, 1937, in Palmyra to the late Edward and Gladys Blaney Kuehl.

She met Harold (Gene) Waters, the love of her life at school when she was only twelve years old and they were married in 1954. They farmed west of Palmyra where they raised their three children. When they retired from farming they spent over twenty years living in Branson, Mo. before returning to live in Springfield in 2021.

Donna was raised in Palmyra and was a member of the Palmyra Christian Church. She was very musically talented and lent her services to the church as pianist and organist for many years. She started singing when she was three years old and appeared on several local country opry shows throughout her life. She was a friend and teacher to many in the music field and enjoyed offering piano lessons to several of the local youth. She was also a lifelong Cardinal baseball fan.

She is survived by her husband Harold (Gene) Waters, they were blessed with over 71 of marriage. Their children Kathy (Lance) Smith of Mountainburg, AR., Teresa Waters Anderson of Hopedale, Il. and Thomas Waters (Darin Comstock) of Rowlett, TX., five grandchildren, Blake (Amber) Smith, Chase Anderson, Rees (Kristen) Smith and Clint (Donna) Smith, one step-granddaughter, Jennifer Anderson-Suhre, ten great-grandchildren and three great-great granddaughters. Also one brother William (Kathy) Kuehl and one sister Janet Kuehl Wempen as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one son-in-law, two great grandsons and one brother-in-law.

Donna will be remembered for her kindness and love for her family. Her laughter and wisdom were gifts to everyone who knew her. May her memory be a blessing and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. She was the heart of our family and her light will shine brightly forever in our hearts.

There will be a private family graveside service at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra, Il. Stults-Neece Chapel in Palmyra, Il. is in charge of arrangements.
