Frank Y. Wilkinson
North Myrtle Beach
Frank Y. Wilkinson, 85, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Seacoast Medical Center.
Born on May 13, 1927 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Frank B. and Margaret D. Patterson Wilkinson.
Frank graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington in 1945. He joined the U.S. Navy that year and served in the U.S. and the Philippines. After Honorable Discharge, he attended George Washington University in Washington, DC and graduated with a BS degree from Shepherd College in West Virginia.
After graduation, Frank worked a number of years for a highway research company in Rosslyn, VA, and for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Alaska, before joining the Civil Aeronautics Administration (which became the Federal Aviation Administration). He spent the remainder of his professional career in the Airports Program of FAA, which oversees the Federal Airport Development Programs. He began in the Engineering Division at FAA Headquarters in Washington, DC, then as the Regional Paving Engineer for the Southern Region in Atlanta, GA, then finally as the Assistant Airports District Office Manager in Falls Church, VA until he retired in 1986.
After retirement, he moved to North Myrtle Beach with his family. He enjoyed the blessings of living at the beach and loved working around the house and was involved in many church and community activities. He was a member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church.
Mr. Wilkinson is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carol E. Kesecker Wilkinson of North Myrtle Beach; two sons, Frank B. Wilkinson, II, Thomas M. Wilkinson; two daughters, Dana L. Wilkinson Thomas, Dena L. Wilkinson Vicinus; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, July 2, at Risen Christ Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Risen Christ Lutheran Church, 10595 Hwy 17 N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29572 or Mercy Care 8216 Devon Court, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572.
