Lula "Tiny" W. Batten, 87, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Batten was born May 17, 1924, in Chadbourn, N.C., a daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Hardee White. She was predeceased by her great-grandson, Benjamin; and by four brothers. She was a loving wife, mother, and Nana, who will always be remembered for her love of family. Also, she was a charter member of the Ocean View Baptist Church and of the Virginia Anderson Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Paul C. Batten, Sr.; her son, Paul C. Batten, Jr. and wife, Marsha, of Little River; her daughter, Betty L. Batten of Little River; her sister, Francis "Sister" Strickland of Laurinburg, N.C.; her five grandchildren, Cameron, Stacey, Mashann, Dusty, and Jenny Lynn; her nine great-grandchildren, Rachael, Ashley, Alisha, Gabriel, Alyssa, Olivia, Austin, Brady Paul, Abigail and twins on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Ocean View Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Cromer and Dr. J. Kirk Lawton Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Southeastern Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 15, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m., at McMillan-Small Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children-Greenville, 950 West Faris St., Greenville, SC 29605 or Ocean View Baptist Church, 7300 N. Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572. An online guest register is available at www.msfh.net.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to you and the entire Batten family in the loss of Mrs. Batten. She and Bobby shared baking tips with their "friendship cakes". He helped her bake her cakes several times and enjoyed sharing that time with her. She was a very special lady and will be missed very much on Camellia Drive.

I have never come across one person who didn't have deep respect and love for Mr. and Mrs. B.
