Born: December 5, 1939 in Streator, IL.
Died: December 21, 2023 in Pontiac, IL.
Janice E. Kornas, 84, of Streator passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023 at O.S.F. St. James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac.
There will be no services. Cremation rites have been accorded. Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
A private burial will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park at a later date.
Born December 5, 1939 in Streator, she was the daughter of Carl and Lucille (Armstrong) Avon. She married Ronald Kornas on August 29, 1959 at Immaculate Conception Church in Streator.
She is survived by a sister, Angie Gutek of Streator; a brother, Robert (Mary) Avon of Streator; a niece, Allison (Brad) Giacomini of Godfrey; nephews, Joseph Avon of Streator, Todd Gutek of Cypress, Texas, Carl Janney of Illinois and Alan Janney of Indiana..
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a daughter, Kathryn Kornas-Holocker; a sister, Kathleen Janney and a brother, Carl Avon.
She was raised in Streator and attended Streator Grade Schools and Streator High School.
While Ron was serving in the Army, Janice lived with him for a year and they enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. She liked to cook and bake, especially wedding cakes and Chocolate Toffee Candies. She loved to read and was a member of the former St. Mary's Church.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis..
