Phyllis K. Stiemann, age 89, passed peacefully surrounded by family, friends and caregivers on March 5, 2022.
Born June 4, 1932, to Frank and Vesta Novotney, in Streator, Illinois, Phyllis attended Streator High School. After graduation in 1950, Phyllis married Don who would become her husband of 70 years. Phyllis and Don moved to Davenport, Iowa where she attended a professional training institute while Don attended college. After completion of their studies the couple moved back to Streator, Illinois where they spent their early years and started a family. They would later relocate to Wheaton, Illinois and then to Indianapolis, which would become their permanent home.
It was in Indianapolis that Phyllis would start her career with Liberty Mutual Insurance becoming the first female sales agent and eventually a top sales producer. Phyllis left Liberty Mutual to join Bank One, assisting the bank with the development and sales of its line of insurance products until her retirement.
During retirement Phyllis and Don spent their winters in Naples, Florida where they enjoyed playing golf and bocce ball with their many Florida friends. Aside from golf, Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her close circle of friends and her family.
Phyllis spent the last eight years as a resident of Hoosier Village where her loss is felt by many of her fellow residents.
Phyllis is preceded in death by Don and her parents.
Phyllis is survived by her two sons, Terry (Debbie), Grand Rapids, Michigan and Dan (Anita), French Lick, Indiana, her brother Terry Novotney (Sandy Thompson), Morris, Illinois and six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Phyllis will be interred in Streator, Illinois next to Don, her parents and two infant daughters. A celebration of her life is planned in the spring.
