Robert James Mathias, age 51, of Naples Florida, passed away peacefully at Avow Hospice with his family at his side on May 22, 2022. He began his hard-fought battle against throat cancer in October 2021.
He was born July 31, 1970, in Ottawa Illinois, to James Richard Mathias and the late Ruth Lynne Yanello Mathias. Rob was raised near Wedron where he spent the majority of his childhood. He moved to Naples in 1988 and graduated from Barron Collier HIgh School in 1989. Rob returned to IL and was employed by Alloyd in DeKalb for several years. He then moved back to Naples in 2005 and was employed by Walgreens during that time.
Rob loved to follow his favorite sports teams, the Bears, the White Sox and the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team. Rob enjoyed playing golf and listening to music. He was a very good cook and was always looking for new recipes to try. He loved his dog Frankie who was his best friend and companion for 16 years.
Rob is survived by his dad and stepmom Jim and Duffy Mathias of Marseilles, his brother Tony (Amy) Mathias of Marseilles, and his sister Dawn Kersting (Richard) of Marlinton WV.
Rob requested that his body be donated to science so that he could help others even after his death. Rob was greeted in Heaven by his mom, all of his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Rob was a wonderful brother and son and will be missed dearly.
