Abbie Keyes Obituary

"He lived. He died. He loved. He was loved." - this is all that Dad wanted us to say but…

A. Vincent Keyes "Abbie" of Signal Mountain passed away peacefully March 9, 2026 surrounded by his children. He was born on October 23, 1932 and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina. Abbie attended The University of North Carolina and joined the USAF in 1954 (honorably discharged in 1958). Abbie met Shirley Ann Stone in Charleston, SC and they married on September 14, 1956. Abbie returned to UNC, receiving an under graduate degree in Economics and a Master's degree in 1960.

Abbie worked for Integon (Winston Salem) then joined Provident Life and Accident (Unum) in Chattanooga (1969). He received the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1970. Abbie took early retirement in 1987 from Provident and then joined Brooks Montague and Keyes. In 1993, he formed Southport Capital (investment advisors) with longtime friend, Donald R. Tomlin. Abbie continued with transitional work until taking full retirement in 2007.

During retirement, Abbie enjoyed golf and bridge with friends and continued to enjoy his woodworking. He was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital as well. Abbie was a cradle to grave Catholic and since 1969 was an active member of Saint Augustine's Parish on Signal Mountain.

Most important of all was his marriage to Shirley ("69 years, 5 months and 11 days" as he proudly stated!) as well as his children, seven grandchildren and seven grands. Abbie is survived by his children: Karen Keyes Stuber, Kevin Keyes (Cheryl), Kirsten Keyes Myers (Brock). He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jenson Keyes, Candace Perry (Ben), Lindsay Stuber, Vince Stuber (Abby), Samuel Keyes (Jade), Kaitlyn and Carson Myers. Abbie also has seven great-grandchildren: Aidan Keyes, Lincoln, Clay, and Levi Perry, Kallie Keyes, Louie Keyes and Cason Lombardo. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Abbie's summary; "I have had one great life, blessed by a loving wife and family, wonderful friends and a supportive church. I have had blessings beyond my most imagined expectations."

The family would like to give special thanks to Adoration Hospice as well as Home Comforts for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers please consider Adoration Hospice, Home Comforts, St. Augustine Catholic Church, American Haitian Foundation or Memorial Hospital of Chattanooga.

Visitation is 10:00am - 11am and a funeral mass to follow at 11:00am on March 28, 2026 at Saint Augustine's Catholic Church on Signal Mountain.
