Abel Herrera

Abel Herrera, eighty-six, of Tustin, left us peacefully on October 14, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother.

Abel was born in 1939 in Oaxaca, Mexico, where he met and married the love of his life, Irma. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, sharing their love with their children and beloved grandchildren. Abel came from a generation of men who showed their love quietly, through steadfast actions rather than words. He expressed his affection by rising early to warm the car on cold mornings, fixing what was broken without being asked, offering thoughtful advice, saving a cold Coca-Cola for you, or simply asking about your day.But it was through his cooking that Abel spoke most clearly. He became alive in the warmth of the kitchen and the joyful bustle of family gatherings surrounded by his children, Janet, Russell, Jimmy, Michael, Eddie, and Dave, and his cherished grandchildren, Maxwell, Matthew, and Gillian. It was then that he best shared his love through the meals he prepared. His affection could be seen in the color of his mole, the flavor of his salsas, and the aroma of his enchiladas. Through his food, he reminded us that love can be savored, not just felt.

Abel Herrera was a good man, and when he left this beautiful earth, he did so surrounded by those who loved him best. He is missed but will not be forgotten.

Abel Herrera, de ochenta y seis años y residente de Tustin, nos dejó el 14 de octubre de 2025. Fue un esposo, padre, abuelo, tío y hermano muy querido por todos los que lo conocieron.

Abel nació en 1939 en Oaxaca, México, donde conoció a Irma, el amor de su vida, con quien se casó. Juntos, construyeron una hermosa vida y familia, compartiendo su amor con sus hijos y adorados nietos.

Abel pertenecía a una generación de hombres que demostraban su amor en silencio, con acciones concretas más que con palabras. Expresaba su afecto levantándose temprano para calentar el auto en las mañanas frías, arreglando lo que estaba roto sin que se lo pidieran, ofreciendo consejos útiles, guardándote una Coca-Cola fría o simplemente preguntándote cómo te había ido el día.

Pero era a través de su cocina que Abel se expresaba con mayor claridad. Se sentía pleno en el calor de la cocina y en el alegre bullicio de las reuniones familiares rodeado de sus hijos, Janet, Russell, Jimmy, Michael, Eddie y Dave, y sus queridos nietos, Maxwell, Matthew y Gillian. Fue entonces cuando mejor compartió su amor a través de las comidas que preparaba. Su cariño se reflejaba en el color de su mole, el sabor de sus salsas y el aroma de sus enchiladas. Con su comida, nos recordaba que el amor se saborea, no solo se siente.

Abel Herrera fue un buen hombre, y cuando dejó este hermoso mundo, lo hizo rodeado de quienes más lo amaban. Se le extraña, pero no se le olvidará.
