DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory - EspanolaPatricia Herrera, age 79, of Chamita, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 6, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris “Chenchito” Herrera; her parents, Henry Serrano, Sr. and RoseMarie Serrano; brother and sister-in-law, Henry Serrano, Jr. and Evie Serrano; sister, Lorraine Serna; brother, Jimmy Serrano; father-in-law, Crecencio Herrera; niece, Jennifer Ortiz-Vigil; brother-in-law, Thom Ortiz; and great-niece, Cristiana Vigil.
Born on November 11, 1945, to Henry and RoseMarie Serrano of San Pedro, Patricia was the fourth of seven children. She married her husband, Chris Herrera, in 1974 and gave birth to her only child, Annaliza, in 1981. After moving to Chamita, she worked as a beautician and ran her beauty shop, Patricia’s Salon de Belleza, until it closed in 1998.
As a devoted wife and mother, Patricia took wonderful care of her family, especially her daughter, who she gave the world to. Her light always extended to those she loved, whether they were family, friends, or someone in need. Her nieces and nephews will fondly remember that Auntie Patsy never forgot their birthdays and always gave them a call to sing to them on their special day.
Patricia was also a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and deeply devoted to her faith. She was a parishioner at San Juan Catholic Parish and attended adoration of Jesus in the Eucharist in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel for many years. She was also a member of La Sagrada Familia in Chamita and attended Bible study with her close friend Donna Martinez.
She is survived by her daughter, Annaliza Herrera; sisters, Lydia Ortiz and Jeannine Padilla; brother, Gilbert (Carmen) Serrano; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, and close friends, whom Patricia called her “Angels”.
Patricia will live on in our hearts and the stories we share. Each time we hear Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May,” we know she’ll be dancing in Heaven.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the team at AmberCare Hospice, Anna, Nancy, and Janice, for the wonderful care they provided. We’d also like to express our appreciation to everyone who has offered their thoughts, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time.
Serving as pallbearers are Leon Serna, Loren Serna, Karlo Serrano, Josh Padilla, Jacob Serrano, Christopher Serrano, and Paul Herrera.
A Rosary will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at San Juan Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. and a Mass at 11:30 a.m. And burial to take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Santa Cruz, NM
