Abigail Singleton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapels - Missouri on Nov. 24, 2024.
God allowed a precious, beautiful soul to embrace the portals of this earthly realm on October 26, 1991. Her name was Abigail Alma Singleton, born to her parents Robert and Novella Singleton and engrafted in love to her sister, Rebecca, who she affectionately called "Bec'Bec".
Abigail was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. The Singleton family relocated from Virginia to Kansas in 1993 when Abigail was two years of age.
She and her family became members of Mason Temple Institutional Church Of God In Christ very shortly after arriving in Kansas under the pastorage of Bishop William H. McDonald. Later, upon the death of Bishop McDonald, Bishop L. F. Thuston would become Abigail and the Singleton's family pastor.
Abigail loved God and the people of God. She loved her church and church family. She was proud to be a member of the Church Of God In Christ and often said "I'm glad I'm Church Of God In Christ, I love my church!" She was active in her local church, serving as Sunday School Secretary and on the Usher Board. She also sang with the choir. She worked with the Youth Department on the local and state level. She was always learning in the church and "growing in grace."
Abigail received her formal secular education thru home schooling and completed her education at Wallula Christian School Academy of Lansing, Kansas. She never forgot her favorite teacher – her 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Elaine Oney. She loved her and was so proud to tell others "Mrs. Oney taught me to read." She would in latter years progress to become an excellent and articulate reader especially of the Bible. She never married but was faithful in love and service to God, her church and her family.
Abigail was always helpful to her family and loved helping others. She worked with her family in the ministry and the food pantry. When the family faced some tragedies and hardships, she faced them like a "trooper", never complaining, always extending a helpful hand. She was right by her sister's side helping in the care of their mother who had a stroke. We will all miss her beautiful smile and her gentle sweet spirit. We were blessed to have her with us for thirty-three years. But now we know she is with her Father in Heaven and one day we will meet again.
Abigail was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Richard Singleton and Alma Brown, and her maternal grandparents, James and Louise Burch, brother, Jimmie L. Hancock, Jr.
Abigail leaves to cherish her memories: parents, beloved father and beloved mother, Deacon Robert and Supervisor Novella Singleton; her beloved sister, Rebecca Hancock all of the home in Leavenworth, Kansas; uncle, Alan Singleton of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; nephew, Timothy Q. Hancock (Devin); great nephew, Tyler and great niece, Trinity of Lorton, Virginia; niece, Tarah Hightower (Rico); great nephew, Jayce and great niece, Aria of Severn, Maryland; sister-in-law, Viola Hancock of Denver, Colorado; cousin, Karen George Hanna (Troy) of Brooklyn, New York and many other cousins in the New York and South Carolina areas that she never met; her Mason Temple Family. "Until we all meet again in Heaven."
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, 11:00am at Mason Temple Institutional COGIC. Interment Mount Muncie Cemetery. Visitation from 9:00am-11:00am at the church. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.

My sincere condolences to the family of Abigail Singleton. What a precious soul she was. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints". I am confident believing she is resting peacefully in the arms of her Savior, whom she loved dearly by the work and behavior she exhibited consistently in the church and otherwise.
My heart goes out to Mom and Dad Singleton and Rebecca. May you know that you are being lifted in prayer daily during this trying time. God rest your soul Sis Abigail.
