Abram "Gray Fox" Cantu

Abram, age 98, better known as the 'Gray Fox', passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023. He was a native of Manassa, Colorado and a longtime resident of Amite, LA. Abram proudly served his country for over 22 years in The United States Navy as a Chief Boatsmans Mate during both World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite, LA. For many years he was a member of VFW Post of Hammond. He loved traveling making lasting memories. Abram was a wonderful, generous man who is already dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, and he never met a stranger.
Abram is survived by his Guardian Angel of the past 31 years, Diann Delbasty; daughter, Sheila Cantu Delong; grandchildren, Jacob Arrazate, and Joshua Arrazate; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Abram is preceded in death by his wife Patsy Brocker Cantu; parents, Severo and Manulita Cantu; along with 3 brothers and 8 sisters.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at St Helena Catholic Church, 122 S. 1st St., Amite, LA. on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. A Funeral Mass will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Miles Walsh will officiate with interment to follow in the Cantu Family Cemetery.
