Ada Black Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hedges-Scott-Millard Funeral Homes and Lake Memorial Gardens - Osage Beach on Jan. 27, 2026.
On Sunday, January 25, 2026, Ada Lorene Black went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Ada was a thoughtful and giving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Although she went by many names, the one she wore with pride was Granny.

Nothing was more important to her than her relationship with Jesus. She was active in her church and bible studies. Her love for and dedication to Christ were evident in how she loved and treated others. She leaned heavily on her faith and the word of God which brought her through many trials of life, including the loss of her husband of 57 years, Marvin, who she lovingly called "Duck."

She loved to cook, and she had great pleasure in bringing homemade treats to her family and friends. One of her greatest joys was greeting people and making them feel welcome, whether it was at her house, church or someone else's gathering. Spending time with her family and friends gave her great joy. Ada was a special woman and very much loved. She will be terribly missed by all who loved her until we are reunited in heaven.

Ada is survived and missed by her children Linda McDowell-Holcomb (Charlie), Gregory Black, Debi Gamm (Brian), Tony Black, Desta Franklin (Tom), 23 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmanuel and Lorene (Moody) Tournquist, husbands Harold Phillips and Marvin Black, and sons Marvin Jr., Steve and Randy.

Friends will be received on Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 755 Bagnell Dam Blvd, Lake Ozark, MO with funeral service following at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church to help support their missionary work.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges-Scott-Millard Funeral Homes, 514 Highway 42, Osage Beach, MO 65065 (573) 348-3232. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.hedgesscottmillard.com.

Ada was a very sweet friend of ours....she probably didn't even know our names, but truly was a friend, never forgetting who we were. She came to I believe EVERY garage sale we had on "D" Road, never missing an opportunity to visit, as well. I would see her other places (mainly Walmart...) and she would always give me the sweetest hug and special visit. We talked about so many things and I always felt better after being with her and hearing her words. When Marvin wasn't able to get out of the vehicle, my husband would go and visit with him while Ada and I had our special time together, always ending with a hug and sweet goodbye ("Until next time, dear", she would say to me) I admired her, loved hearing her stories and her love for her church, her God, and her family. Although we will not be able to attend the service, I wanted family to know that we too are saddened to say goodbye to such a sweet lady who lived her life in such a special way to others. She will always be a special person I will always remember. Prayers for peace as she would certainly want for those saying their goodbyes. God bless each of you. Sincerely, Barb and Jack Farris.
