Marie Deyton, date of birth December 4, 1928, date of death January 21, 2025We have lost the crown jewel of our family. Our precious Mother and Nanny passed away surrounded by her family. We were all so very blessed to have her in our lives for as long as we did, 96 beautiful years. Our hearts are shattered knowing she isn't here with us anymore, but was one of the most devoted Christian women we know, we rest assured that she is now in the arms of Jesus.Marie was born in
Erwin, Tennessee to her parents, Wade and Ada Kegley. She grew up in the Martins Creek community and stayed busy helping around the home with her 10 siblings. She met the love of her life, Charles Deyton, at the age of 17 and married shortly thereafter. They had two beautiful children, Terry and Marsha, and remained married for 57 years.Marie spent her years working at Steinway, Clinchfield Drug and Roller Pharmacy, and Erwin TV Sales and Service, which she owned with her husband. She finished up her later career at Whites Grocery Store.Mrs. Deyton was a proud member of Erwin Church of Christ. Her father founded the Broyles Street Church of Christ before the congregation moved into a different building. She remained faithful to this congregation her entire life and lived every day as a Proverbs 31 woman.In her final years Nanny enjoyed studying her Bible, going to church and spending time with her family and friends. She also liked doing word search books, reading, working in her flowers and watching Perry Mason, Price is Right and Murder She Wrote.She will be missed by everyone who had the privilege to know her. Marie is preceded in death by: her husband of 57 years, Charles Deyton; parents, Wade and Ada Allen Kegley; brothers: Harold Kegley, Thero Kegley (Emma), Lee Kegley (Pearl), Earl Kegley (Mildred), WA Kegley, Jr.; sisters: Irene Willis (Regis), Anna Jackson (Cecil), Elizabeth Renfro (Carl), Beatrice Whitson, Mogene Estep (Roy); son-in-law, Ellis Engle; granddaughter, Anita Engle; brothers-in-law: Frank Deyton (Nona), Hobart Laws (Kate); and sisters-in-law: Mildred Griffith (Holt), Helen Peterson (Ernest).Marie Deyton has left behind to cherish her memory: daughters: Terry Engle and Marsha Erwin (Phil); grandchildren: Eddie Engle, Carol Whitson, Christy Wyche (Jim), Eric Engle (Brandi), Kelly Laco (Joseph); great-grandchildren: Stephinie Woodby (Josh), Ryan Howard (Erika), Anisha Whitson, Adam Howard (Megan), James Wyche, John Wyche, Jacob Wyche, Jacob Laco, Rebecca Laco, Destanie Debord (Joey); great-great-grandchildren: Kalee Howard, Liam Engle, McKinnley Howard, Rowyn Woodby, Eli Howard, Jasper Lloyd, Gabriel Howard, Niko Foster, Levi Howard, Love Lloyd, Sammy Howard; sister-in-law, Winsie Kegley; honorary great-great-grandchild, Cleo Marie Thompson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Erwin Church of Christ Flood Relief Fund.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Marie Deyton in a funeral service to be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 24, 2025, at The Erwin Church of Christ. Minister Jeff Winters will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by Jeff Johnson. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 11:00 am on Friday and will continue until service time at The Erwin Church of Christ. A committal service will be held in the mausoleum chapel at Evergreen Cemetery following the funeral service. Reverend Adam Howard will officiate. Those who wish to attend the committal service should meet at The Erwin Church of Christ by 1:00 pm on Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Ryan Howard, Jacob Laco, Joseph Laco, Eric Engle, Jim Wyche, Eddie Engle and Josh Woodby.
