North English- Ada Jane McCartney was born October 28, 1942, in West Branch, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth Albin and Roberta Ann (West) Vincent. She graduated from West Branch High School in 1960, she attended junior college in southern California before graduating from William Penn College with her masters in education. On June 15, 1968, Jane was united in marriage to John William McCartney at Friends Church in West Branch. After they were married, they moved to North English. She taught at various schools, before becoming the head librarian at the North English Public Library, retiring in 2012. Jane was a member of the North English United Methodist Church and attended the Friends Church in West Branch. She was a member of the UMW, Fort Nightly Club and was a former 4-H leader. She enjoyed watching Iowa women’s basketball, the Indiana Fever, and the Chicago Cubs. She loved to read. Jane died on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Crestview Specialty Care in West Branch, at the age of 83 years.
She is survived by her son Kent McCartney of North Liberty; daughter Kerry (Yuk Ki) Lau of Blaine, Minnesota; a grandson August John McCartney; daughter-in-law Lindsey McCartney of North Liberty; and a sister-in-law Sheila Vincent of North Liberty. She was preceded by her parents; a husband; two brothers Jack Vincent and Russell Vincent; and a sister-in-law Marilyn Vincent.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Burial will follow at the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00 until service time at the Powell Funeral Home. A general memorial fund has been established. Messages and tributes may be left www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
