I met him once during my stay in Rochester and we had a conversation. He was a fun person and had a sense of humor. His personallty is so wonderful, friendly and sociable. I'm so grateful that I had the chance to meet him before he left to eternity with the Lord.
My condolences to Peter and the family.
May his soul rest in peace.

Our deepest condolences to Mrs. Henen, Peter & family, Christine & family, extended family and friends. Mr. Henen´s passing hit us hard, as I´m sure it did for everyone else who knew and loved him. He was a hard-working, kind man whose playful sense of humor made an impression on the hearts of everyone he met. I´ve known the Henen family since Pete and I were in Junior High School together. I would be at their house often, and every time, Mr. Henen would have a big smile and he would wish me an "Indian Summer!!" (I´m from India), and we would greet each other with that. As the years went on, I would greet him with "Arab Spring". We would talk about his favorite things; God, family and friends, his church, and Egypt. Pete gave a beautiful and touching eulogy to his father. I know he´s proud of his amazing wife, kids Pete & Janet, Christine & Maged, the grandchildren and the wonderful people they´ve grown up to be. The family has all the good qualities of him. His legacy continues. May you be comforted knowing he is in peace (and joking), with family and friends in heaven. To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven... a time to heal. - Ecclesiastes 3:1, 3

I am so sad to hear of Adel's passing. What a wonderful man! He always had a smile on his face here at NTID. Always a kind word. He woud beam when talking about his grandkids. He truly brought a smile to the face of everyone he met. Such a special person! My deepest sympathy to his loved ones.

Uncle Adel was truly a great person with a one-of-a-kind personality. He loved to make everyone around him laugh, and was always willing to help anyone on any occasion. The amount of time and work he willingly offered up to help the Coptic Orthodox Church is immeasurable. He will be sadly missed by everyone that knew him.

From the first moment I met Uncle Adel, he made me instantly feel a part of the community. Every time I would visit, he would welcome me with a huge smile and a funny joke; Usually at Andrew´s expense, which were always my favorite. I´ll never forget that when it was time for me to get baptized, he came early in the morning to help get the room ready and make sure the water was hot to make sure I would be comfortable. He also gave an amazing speech at my wedding that my family members still reference today because of how memorable it was. I´ll miss seeing him on my visits to Rochester but I´ll remember him always by the fond memories and seeing him through his family members. Heaven has gained another angel.

Sad to separate from a lifetime friend as we were born in Elkashif street in the City of Dairout, Assiout Egypt. Our families were merged later with the marriage of his brother and my sister. Adel finished his education as a technician engineer from the high institute of telecommunications before we left Cairo to Rochester. Saint Mark´s church became a focus to both our families in every aspect of our lives. Anything needed out of norm we called Adel who was grateful to serve in any capacity from preparing to closing any event. Even greeting any occasion that no one will forget. The tasks that he took upon himself are so numerous to list.
Now he raced to be first in the Paradise of joy with our creator and Lord Jesus Christ. His memory will stick in our minds and hearts until we meet again.

Adel was such a sweet man and so funny. He always told me I had the same name as his daughter in law, and I felt honored by this. He'll never be forgotten and he'll be the family's guardian angel. Rest in peace, Adel!

From: John Milad to uncle Adel and all of his beloved ones

I met uncle Adel f2f once in Canada when I was visiting Ronny in 2012; despite the 1 encounter, I know that I met this man long before the meeting in person.
The great deeds, the reputation, personal image and impression he left on the people back in the original homeland (Egypt) introduced him to me way before the 2012 meet up.

I wish I met him before and more afterwards more often; but the great thing is that people live through their legacy and uncle Adel left a great legacy in his compassionate children and loving wife. He drew a smile on each and everyone he met and who heard about him.
I can relate to this great man in starting up in a new country, new life, new culture and he made it happen despite the difficulties and left a great legacy behind.
Passing away is not the end, it is rather the portal to a new beginning and I wish he can see and feel these words somehow.
And to his beloved family, don´t mourn, but rejoice that you had the blessing of the opportunity to enjoy his company, love, wisdom and care all of these years.

Love from the other side of the planet

To Adel's Family and Friends,
Adel was one of the first friendly colleagues I had the pleasure of getting to know when I began my career at RIT/NTID. His smile, humor, and genuine care for the people around him were like none other. Whenever one of our department members retired, Adel was quick to write up a memorable poem and to pop into a meeting to read it aloud, as a tribute to honor his colleague and wish them well.

A poem for you, Adel:

Always ready with a witty joke,
Eager to deliver everyone's first morning smile,
Our fond memories of you are going to last a long, long while.

Rest in peace, Adel. You have left your unique mark on our world and I am grateful to have known you.

You have my sincerest condolences on Adel's passing. I remember him walking the halls at RIT/NTID - and he ALWAYS had a smile and acknowledged everyone with a wave. Even though he did not know much ASL - he tried what little he knew and with a lot of gesturing! But his positive energy always radiated off of him and no words were needed. He truly was a very kind, genuine human being. I am fortunate that I knew him while he was working at NTID.

" `Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.´ 'Yes,' says the Spirit, 'that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them"

Adel's work will follow him. His kindness, his smiling face that helped people to overcome hardship, love that added values to people's lives.

I am sure that your prayers will strengthen your family and friends.

Words cannot describe and will not be able to describe the emotions I had when I heard about the departure of Uncle Adel.

There are so many memories that I had with him growing up at St. Mark and lessons that he taught us by his actions, not by words. He will be truly missed in every way.

May God repose his soul and grant comfort and consolation to the family.

Though I´ve only know Uncle Adel for a little over a year now, his lovable persona, kindness, jovial nature and genuine humour never failed to warm my heart. His smile is still imprinted in my mind and it feels like just yesterday he was right there amidst all of us, making sure he said hello to each of us after church. I have fond memories of him teaching some arabic words to me and sharing some old arabic songs a millenial should have listened to. Nothing beats a love of someone special like him; he´s safe now in eternal paradise. My prayers and condolence to Peter, Janet and the family. Your dad was and will always be- The Legend.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Deacon Adel was a great servant of God. I can witness his strength while he celebrates his 73 birthday. He used to come to the church before the priest and stayed after all to care for the church.
May God rest his Soul in heaven, and my great condolences to his family and the St. . Mark Church.

What a blessing to grow up with you in our lives. You had your eyes on everything. Adults and kids. Nurturing and playful, but always precise in your words. Your sincerity is something we should all draw from. You kept us out of trouble when we were young, as an adult always welcomed me on my visits back home, and embraced us exactly as we are. You showed us what it means to be in service, in community, mahaba. Growing up I remember being in awe of how you would traverse English and Arabic weaving lines together brimming with meaning and double entendre. The linguistic code-switching was so catchy! You influenced my love for language- and were the first poet/writer I ever encountered in life. Thank you for your warmth and genuine care. May your blessings and memory forever stay with us. Long live Uncle Adel. With love and heartfelt sympathy,

My first memory of uncle Adel was meeting him at church. He told me that my uncle was his doctor, and then cracked a very funny joke that I will always remember. He would come up to me at church during my first few liturgies there, and ask my name so that he can give it to the priest to announce me as a guest. He did this several times and we laughed at that. He was one of the few that always asked how I was doing, and would call me often out of the blue to check in on me. One of the few that would say 'I love you' to even a grown man such as myself, who needed to hear it nonetheless. He has a beautiful heart and a loving soul and I look forward to seeing him again in heaven.

My dearest Uncle Adel and "Dad"
You touched and deeply changed my life. I´ll always cherish your kindness, love and service to me. Caring for George and I as the "children you didn´t know you had". Opening your heart and home to us everyday, and with Taunt Kokab, Peter and Christine making us truly part of your family and we were in every family picture with you.
You lived the faith in Christ and set an example of service and love. You lived every beatitude Christ taught. Now Christ calls you, "blessed are you" come Adel and tell us a few good jokes!
Love you Uncle Adel, may your memory be eternal habibi.

Uncle Adel was one of the kindest people I knew and a staple in our community. He served the community faithfully and offered love, support, compassion, and a healthy dose of humor to everyone he met. He was there for all of us in the good times and the bad. When my grandfather died, I was nine and an absolute mess at the funeral. Seeing how upset I was, Tunt Kawkab and Uncle Adel invited me to stay at their house for lunch while my family buried my grandfather. I couldn't handle being at the burial at that time so I was thankful that they provided me an opportunity to stay back. I'm so thankful for the many sweet memories I have of Uncle Adel. May God repose his soul and give peace to his family and all who loved him.

Uncle Adel, you were of value and stature in love, humility, and simplicity of heart. You were a person loved by everyone, young and old, loved not only by those who dealt with you, but also by those who were not fortunate enough to deal with you or be with you face to face. Uncle Adel God loved all your beautiful qualities. He loved His creation in you. That's right, uncle we will miss you physically, but we will feel your presence and your prayers. Pray for Tant Kawkab, Peter, Christine and their family that our God will fill their hearts with peace and comfort. Uncle, I was lucky to have dealt with you closely and to have an uncle like you. May your soul rest in paradise. We will truly miss you, uncle Adel

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Uncle Adel, but I feel blessed to have known and spent my childhood and early adulthood with him. He brought joy to my life and his playful, funny, humble, easy-going personality was contagious. He came calling with a funny joke at the right time; some of which will have to stay between us. His deep desire to serve others and the church was unmatched. Everyone can attest that Uncle Adel went the extra mile to fulfill whatever he was asked. Being one of the original Coptic Orthodox families in Rochester, that effort translated into building the church, both as a physical building but more importantly as a community. The fruit of his labor is real. That is a memory of him that will live with me and many others, forever. I will miss you Uncle Adel, but God has better plans for you.

I was very sad by the news of the repose of our dear brother Adel Henein, whose name combines two divine qualities, specifically the justice and tenderness of God at the same time. He has a great place in my heart and has always composed words of welcome on every visit through which he expresses his love. I was very touched that the last visit he predicted that those words would be the last time, and he may have felt his repose was near. The Lord repose his soul in the paradise of joy, and my consolation to his blessed family and to all of you.

What do you say after a 23 year friendship?
I met Adel through working with Peter and I can still remember going to the house for the first time. Adel cracked a joke and I responded with the perfect answer and off we went for a wonderful and meaningful 23 years. Whether it was serving Chia, cracking a joke, or talking news or politics Adel always showed that he cared and was fun to be around. I really enjoyed when he would bless me with a call, they were never long but we were able to check in to make sure both of us were ok. He even let me read him a nappy time story one time (but he didn't keep the book.) I have so many wonderful memories that I feel that I could fill a book, but some I want to keep to myself. Life gives you wonderful people to cherish, learn from, and lean on and I was truly blessed to have him in my life. Thank you Uncle for all that you did and all that you meant. I will never forget your kindness, generosity, and mostly your awesome sense of humor.
As I've told Pete no one and I mean no one could hammer a nail like Uncle Adel and no one ever will!

23 His lord said to him, `Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.´ Matthew 25:23
Mr. Adel Henen was a living icon in the Church. He served God with zeal and diligence for over 50 years (before the Church´s construction). He was a pure soul and was, I believe, one of the most humble persons I have ever known. He was a spread of joy and love. He had no hidden agenda, no guile, and no devious motives. He was what he was. He had a simple servant´s heart. He lit the candles, and he cleaned the Church. He did the services that were tiring and time-consuming with joy. He called people to check on them regularly, took care of the detailsof communion services, and did whatever needed to
be done around the church. No words can express the congregation and my gratitude for his accomplished and faithful service. May the Lord reward him in the paradise of joy and comfort the family and the Church.

I have known deacon Adel as a quintessential church member with unique qualities. His interpersonal skills were embraced by all of the members of our church, including my wife and my children. His happy and authentic smile has also attracted happy smile among other members of our church. His sudden departure is very disappointing. He will be greatly missed. Nevertheless, I remain convinced that he will be enthusiastically welcomed and embraced in Heaven. My heart and my prayers go out to his family.

Uncle Adel is known across the world for his compassion, benevolence, and humor. He made an impact on every person who met him whether briefly or someone he knew for a lifetime. I was just on the phone with a friend in California and all I said was "the kindest, most generous person in Rochester..." I didn´t finish my sentence and she immediately said "Adel Henen!" Uncle Adel was a faithful servant of Christ, his church, and the community. He has taught many by example how to serve Christ tirelessly. I actually never saw him sit down at any church assembly; he was always up and moving making sure everyone had what they needed. The jokes were always flowing too! You could be sure that if Uncle Adel was in the room, everyone was always laughing. The funny phrases he would say to us when we were kids have stuck with my brother and I until today. Who can forget the poems he wrote and recited? There must be special place in heaven for someone who writes a poem for the Pope and recites it during the Pope´s visit while trading jokes back and forth with His Holiness. Uncle Adel never hesitated to help someone in need. His house was always open, and he would feed you, even if you weren´t hungry! Uncle Adel never met a stranger and always made everyone feel special and important. This loss is a great loss to our community, but we know he is in the embrace of our Lord, and knowing that will comfort us all. Uncle Adel will be missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.

It's hard to envision the loss of Uncle Adel. He remained a bright and shining staple in the community. One of the originals, from a time when there were no Coptic Churches in North America, and we rented buildings with Abouna Marcos driving down every Saturday. Uncle Adel was always the first to enter the church to clean, and prepare, and the last to leave. His commitment and undeniable fervor for service went beyond the ordinary. His love for the church and its' people was unparalleled. There is a large table prepared for those Trail Blazers, with Abouna Marcos sitting at its' head. Uncle Adel more than earned his place and was welcomed with open arms. He will be forever missed and loved. God bless him and his family.

Mr. Adel Henen is a role model of simplicity, humbleness, and hard work. When he carries out a task or duty, he fulfills it to completion and reality. Every corner of our beloved church witnesses his honesty and zeal, and every event was brightened with his speech. He always had a smile on his face that reflected the peace in his heart. He will be always remembered. May God rest his soul in the paradise of joy, reward him in the heavenly kingdom, and comfort the family and the entire community.

So sad to hear about the loss of Uncle Adel. I was blessed to have so many amazing memories with Uncle Adel and his family. One of the few who could always make you laugh with his jokes and cheerful personality. Uncle Adel was a pillar in the community and had tremendous love for his Church, his family and others. I had an opportunity to spend some time with him a few years back and we shared a lot of laughter reminiscing about my childhood. His speeches were legendary and would always leave you smiling. I made it a priority that he would have a speech at my wedding and it was one of his best. Our prayers and heartfelt condolences to my cousins Peter and Christine and to my Aunt Kawkab. May God repose his soul, and comfort his family and everyone who knew him. We will miss you and always remember the great times we shared.

Uncle Adel is one of the most beautiful souls I have had the privilege to know. Being in his presence was filled with such laughter and joy, something I loved being around and never got sick of. He has a light about him that filled every room he walked into. He took care of the Egyptian community in Rochester for many years, always caring and catering to everyone. He was and will always be the grandfather I never had. Heaven truly gained a new angel, but this one is different.

Uncle Adel was a kind and jovial man. I will never forget the speeches he would give at every special and important occasion, and the memory of the one he gave at Neveen and my wedding will forever be a highlight of that special day. I will also miss the "Ben, where you been?!" greeting I would get whenever I saw him. That said, in loving memory of Uncle Adel, I send my deepest condolences and my love and prayers to the Henen Family.

Our beloved uncle Adel. One of the greatest men that we knew, full of love, humbleness, humor and selflessness. A true servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. You were an Icon in St Mark´s Coptic church always greeting with a smile anyone new coming to the church or just visiting. Everyone that met you even once or twice loved you. Thank you for all your service and love. We will truly miss you but we know that you are in heaven rejoicing with the angels and saints. We love you and will never forget you.

How do you describe a person whose mere presence and energy make you smile and laugh and put you immediately at ease?

Uncle Adel lived for his wife, children, extended family, and faith. An incredibly selfless individual who was always there to serve. A pillar in the community, at home, church, and work, he left his mark no matter where he went and the life he touched. He was and is loved by all and will be dearly missed.

We all take solace in knowing that he´s joined his newest community of angels, and he´s looking down and laughing, thinking, "It's ok, don´t worry, what´s the problem?". I can´t think of this wonderful human being for a moment and not instantly smile. You´ll always be with us, Uncle Adel.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family, Taunt Kawkab, Peter & Janet, Christine & Maged, and all the little princesses.

Uncle Adel was the epitome of a good human and a man of God. I´ll never forget when our family first joined the church in Rochester. We would have to drive from Syracuse New York to Rochester for services because there was no church in Syracuse at the time. I remember how generously and kindly uncle Adel welcomed us, and how quickly he integrated us into his family And made us feel at home. As we got to know, the family, Peter and Christine became our siblings, and we spent many weekends together having the absolute best time as kids. Everything from sliding down the stairs on a mattress, to spending entire days at Darien Lake, we quickly became a family and we owe so much of that precious time to uncle Adel. There was never a day that he didn´t have a smile on his face, and never an event that he didn´t have a speech prepared for. School graduations, engagements, weddings, Uncle Adel always had something prepared that was not only funny, but truly from the heart. This was in addition to, his dedicated service to the church and to God. I will never know how he had the time to do so much for others, but what I do know, is that he will always be an inspiration to me and my family. He will truly be missed, and I am so grateful to God for bringing him into our lives. May his soul rest in peace and may his family be comforted by his memory.

I met Uncle Adel when I was 10. He was one of the first people I met when we moved here. He quickly became my uncle. He was always making jokes and being funny but more importantly he was always kind and helpful. He would clean the church after coffee hour every Sunday and we always wanted to help him because he made everything fun and special. He is greatly missed and the world is worse off for him not being here.

In the hushed dawn, a soul takes flight,
Adel journeys beyond the mortal night.
In Christ's embrace, find sweet release,
A life well-lived, a soul at peace.

Beneath the cross, he finds his rest,
A faithful heart, now truly blessed.
Through valleys low and mountains high,
In Christ's love, we'll meet the sky.

In prayers whispered and hymns we sing,
Remember Adel, an angel on the wing.
His laughter echoes in sacred halls,
Within God's grace, his spirit calls.

As tears fall like morning dew,
Our hope in Christ, forever true.
For in His arms, Adel's found,
In heavenly glory, he's Heaven-bound.

Grant him, O Lord, eternal rest,
In your presence, forever blest.
Console his kin with grace untold,
As Adel's story in eternity unfolds

Uncle adel used to call me weekly and check up on me, even after leaving rochester. Love you and miss you

Uncle Adel is a great spirit I meet in the late 1990´s, what character always had a smile and one liners that hit home faster then a smack. The time was so nice with this gentleman and leaving the states I wished he was in my life always.

Uncle Adel was a gentle spirited man, always with a smile on his face, he brought joy to any one who was lucky enough to encounter him, he was funny, kind, humble, always served in the church joyfully. He will be dearly missed but we take comfort in knowing that he is now in the company of angels infront of the throne of God, probably making everyone laugh up there. You will be dearly missed uncle Adel, your ability to connect with people even strangers is a talent. Pray for us till we meet you again and may the lord comfort us all and comfort his family.

I will never forget meeting Adel his eyes radiated jy and his heart was full of the love of our Lord. Though I was a stranger in the church when I first when he accepted me as one of his own and made me feel comfortable in my own skin. Uncle Adel is one of the best men and uncles I know. When we were young and new to the church he was the one who welcomed us. When my grandfather died he was there to help with everything. When I got married and had my first son he was there. No amount of grieving will be enough to fill the hole in my heart. However in heaven he will do what he always does best. He will watch over us and take care of us. God always bless him and his family

One of the special memories of our beloved uncle Adel is when he said a beautiful poem in our wedding ceremony. The choice of words he used expressed how pure and loving his heart is, and how he can easily connect with others.
We saw uncle's humble heart in his church services. Whenever we had questions, we knew uncle would be the one with the helpful answers accompanied by his good sense of humor. Joy filled the air whenever he was around. He was gentle and warm in his interactions; his friendliness made everyone feel comfortable and happy around him.
We will miss him very much. May God repose his soul in the paradise of joy and give comfort to tunt kowkab, Pete, Christine, and his entire family and friends

One of my first memory of Adel was him coming into my office to tell me that he was the genuine African American. Adel brought me so many memories and smiles/laughs while working at NTID. I will never forget him. God Bless you Adel and RIP. I called him my friend.

This is very sad news. For many years Adel would stop by my office, at RIT/NTID, sit down and we would chat for awhile. He would share stories of his children and grandchildren, his trips to Long Island, talk of his wife, and reminisce of his years in Egypt. He always had a smile on his face.

My thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones.

Adel was a very special man. He adored his beautiful family and was beloved by all who knew him. He was cheerful, helpful, and generous, and anyone who knew him felt his genuine warmth. He often played the role of jester to put others at ease. At our wedding, he insisted on reading a prepared 'speech' and although met with knowing groans, went on to fill the room with loving laughter. Typical for this very untypical man. He will be deeply missed, but we are blessed with many beautiful memories of him.
