Adele Catherine "Kitty" Cole, 93, was called home December 24, 2025 at Freedom Village Brandywine,
Coatesville, PA. The loss was unexpected and we are deeply saddened.
Born April 13, 1932 in
West Chester, PA, she was the eldest daughter of the late George B. Smith. Jr. and Evelyn S. Zern. Kitty completed her schooling at West Chester High and graduated from Goldey-Beacom College in
Wilmington, DE. She then worked for DuPont in Wilmington. After dedicating years to raising her family, she worked at the former PNC bank in Thorndale as both a teller and as branch manager. Kitty spent the last part of her career working in the dental office of Dr. John Gentile.
She was the wife of Robert D. Cole, who passed away in 2020. They were married for 67 years. She is survived by three children: Brenda (James) Ulrich of Lancaster, PA., Stephen (Joy) Cole of Saint Michaels, MD., Mark (Teri) Cole of Bangor, PA., three grandchildren: Lauren (Drew) Branyon, Gregory (Caitlin) Cole, Michael (Shayna) Cole, three step grandchildren Sean (Katrina) Berman, Mark Berman, Elise Berman, and eight great grandchildren.
Kitty's faith was very important in her life. She was a member of Hibernia United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, where she served as part of the ladies' group and participated in the annual church fair.
For many years she belonged to her neighborhood ladies' card club. She loved car rides and was often with her husband Bob driving through the scenic Pennsylvania countryside. Throughout her life she enjoyed annual beach vacations with her family, especially to Cape May and the Outer Banks. Together with her older brother George and his wife Louise, Kitty and Bob enjoyed many cruises including visits to the Caribbean islands, Alaska, and traveling through the Panama Canal.
She had been an avid walker for many years, most recently measuring her steps in the hallways of Freedom Village. Kitty's hobbies were water aerobics (always four times a week), Penn State football, tending to her orchids, listening to Gospel music, word puzzles, an occasional glass of wine, and always her family.
