Adele J. Sylvester

1926 - 2026

Adele Joanna (Battaglini) Sylvester, of Oakmont, passed peacefully on March 16, 2026, at 99. She was born in Jeannette on July 29, 1926. She lived there until she was 87 years old, when she moved to Oakmont. She graduated from Jeannette High School in 1944 and attended Seton Hill College. She worked at Sacred Heart Parish as their bookkeeper for many years before retirement. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Harry R. Sylvester; and her beloved daughter, Joyce. Also preceding her were her sister, Louise; and her brothers, Francis and Leonard. Adele is survived by her daughter, Mary (Michael) Szczerbienski; grandsons, Matthew and Christopher Szczerbienski; son, Michael (Tia); and her sister, Lenore (Battaglini) Yennerell, of Austin, TX; along with many nieces and nephews. Adele was a strong woman who was, in every respect, dedicated to her family. Education was her goal for all of her children. She insisted that her family always defend the underdog, and she never tolerated cruelty towards any living thing. She led a life of loving example that afforded her children a beacon of light on any challenge that they faced, which enabled them to make their own decisions at early ages. She always made a welcome home for the ones she loved. Adele always wanted to be remembered by the smells emanating from her magic kitchen, as she was a wonderful cook and baker. However, Adele's legacy is filled with countless examples of the golden rule. Funeral services are for the immediate family only.
