Adeline Scheunemann Obituary

Adeline M. Scheunemann, age 97, formerly of Vesper, WI passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Our House Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vesper. Rev. Ryan Anderson will officiate. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Vesper. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services on Tuesday at the church. Adeline was born April 25, 1928 at home in the Town of Sigel to Edward and Bertha (Schroedel) Polansky. She attended grade school at a one-room school in the basement of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sigel, which was across the street from her family home. She later attended Rudolph High School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids. After high school, Adeline was not yet old enough to be employed. She was lucky though, as her uncle, Carl Polansky, owned a filling station in Wisconsin Rapids where she was allowed to work because she was a relative. Adeline filled gas tanks, checked oil, and put air in tires for customers and kept the books for the station. When she was old enough, she started working for Havard Clothes in Wisconsin Rapids where they made what she referred to as "heavy coats". Her job was to inspect the coats before they were sent out. She held this job until her marriage. Adeline married Floyd Scheunemann on August 7, 1948 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sigel. Soon after their marriage, they moved into the home of Floyd's parents, Ella (Duchow) and Gustav Scheunemann, for a few months until Gus and Ella moved across the road into the two-room structure which was supposedly originally built to house chickens. Ella and Gus lived out their days never having running water and Floyd and Adeline remained on the farm and over the years they built a couple of additions onto the house, the first to include indoor plumbing. Adeline worked as a farm wife while raising six children. She milked cows and helped with other chores in addition to her household duties. She had a large garden and raised chickens to supply eggs and meat for her family and sold extras to the neighbors for additional family income. When Adeline and Floyd decided to quit dairy farming in the mid 1970's, Adeline began working at the local café, eventually becoming the proprietor of The Dutch Diner which she successfully ran for several years. Every log trucker in the state knew that she made the best cinnamon rolls and would make it a point to stop in and enjoy some of her delicious food and baked goods. Adeline closed the diner when she was no longer able to renew her lease. Her next endeavor was as a bookkeeper for Seneca-Sigel Mutual Insurance Company. She was very successful in that position and eventually became General Manager and later Chairman of the Board for Seneca-Sigel. Adeline was a woman of great faith throughout her entire life. She served many roles at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vesper. She was active in the Ladies Aid (holding every office at one time or another), sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served as congregation secretary, and assisted Floyd as custodian after the new church was built. Adeline was an excellent cook and was involved in the preparation and serving of many, many meals from the church kitchen. She was also an excellent seamstress and made nearly every banner that is displayed in the church and was a member of the quilting group. At some point prior to taking her job at the diner, Adeline took a course to learn how to decorate cakes. Over the years, she made countless cakes for weddings, graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, showers, or any celebration. Adeline and Floyd enjoyed traveling throughout the world, Germany being among their favorite places. They also enjoyed a special family trip out west. Adeline is survived by six children: Daniel (Judy) Scheunemann, Jerry (Barbara) Scheunemann, Susan Felch, Barry (Carol) Scheunemann, Karen (Robert) Bohm, and Thomas (Geralyn) Scheunemann; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and her sister-in-law, Elaine Polansky. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Floyd; grandson Jamey; great-granddaughter Ashley; and her siblings: Mildred (Walter) Tesser, Caroline (Norman) Scheunemann, Arzella (Charles) Appel, Lois (Douglas) Smith, and Edward Polansky. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Our House Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice for the exceptional care Adeline received. Memorials may be designated to Trinity Lutheran Church in Vesper. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family.
