The graveside service for Adeline Zelmer, 100, of Aberdeen, SD, formerly of Long Lake, SD, will be 1:00pm, Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Salem Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Long Lake, SD, with Pastor D. Thomas Rawerts officiating. Adeline died Wednesday, February 18, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

Adeline Zelmer, daughter of Edward and Anna Marie (Guthmiller) Zelmer, was born January 6, 1926 near Long Lake, SD, and grew up in that area. She attended country school until her parents moved into Long Lake in 1935 and finished grade school in town. Adeline graduated from Leola High School with the class of 1944, attended Northern State Teacher's College (now NSU) and taught rural schools in the Long Lake area of McPherson County for nine years.

In 1953, she managed her parents grocery store, Zelmer Market, for nine years. In 1965, she worked at Charlie's Meat Market and Charlie Fischer's Insurance Office for ten years. She also worked at Long Lake Industries for a few years, sewing Story Book Land dolls.

Adeline enjoyed gardening, baking, doing puzzles, scrapbooking, and reading. She was a member of Salem Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday for eighteen years and sang in the church choir. Adeline was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

In July of 2005, Adeline and her brother Otto moved to Aberdeen.

Grateful for having shared Adeline's life are her sisters-in-law Marva Lou Zelmer, Aberdeen, SD and Patricia Zelmer, Olney, TX; nephews: Dennis Zelmer, Aberdeen, SD and David (Lin) Smith, San Antonio, TX; nieces: Wanda Gonzalez, Aberdeen, SD, Karen (Ron) Erdman, Aberdeen, SD, and Nancy (Rob) Schultz, Elko, MN; nephew-in-law Jerry Dutton (Silverdale, Washington); five grand-nephews and seven grand-nieces.

Preceding Adeline in death are her parents, Edward & Anna Marie Zelmer; infant brother, Arthur Zelmer; siblings Alma (William) Weishaar, Anna Marie (Wayne) Smith, Otto Zelmer, Milbert Zelmer, and Edmund Zelmer; her God child Kari Marie Dutton and grand-niece Marianne Gonzalez.
