Adrian Gillis Obituary
Adrian is at peace. Adrian L. Gillis was born on March 31, 1946, and left us on May 1, 2024. He was born to Woodrow and Ella Lou Gillis in the old Lakeside Hospital, which he told us every time we drove by there. Adrian was greeted in heaven by his trusted companion, Buster. He is laying under a shade tree with a shiny new John Deere all fueled up ready to go. Adrian can now stand tall and climb on that tractor to drive away with his mischievous little boy grin on his face.
Adrian served in the United States Army in Germany from 1966 until 1968, during the Vietnam War. Adrian was a lineman's lineman. He started his career in Brooksville at Withlacoochee Rural Cooperative and ending with CHELCO after thirty-seven years of service, starting as a lineman and retiring as Supervisor of Line Maintenance and Construction.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank Morrison, Charlie, Doug, and Ronald Lane; sister, Virginia; and several uncles and aunts; as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Adrian is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Rachel. They were blessed with two daughters, Nichole (Kyle), and Miranda (Ken). These great girls gave them eight grandchildren; Nichole and Kyle: AJ (Lauren), Tucker (Savanna), Taylor, Jackson (Heidi), Jacob (Caroline), and Hannah (Andrew); and three great grandsons, Lane, Brooks, and Everett; Miranda and Ken: Henry and Ruby. He is also survived by his brother, Wendell, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Adrian and Rachel would like to thank Synergy Home Care and Dr. Howell with Gentiva Hospice, especially his nurse, Chloe; and Robin, his beloved CNA. They also would like to recognize CHELCO linemen, retired and active, as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).
A time of visitation will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 State Highway 83 North, De Funiak Springs, Florida. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel, with Reverend Jimmy Cook officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home of DeFuniak Springs.
