Agnes "Kay" Bushing
Died peacefully on January 8, 2025 in Winter Garden, FL at the age of 98
Kay is survived by her daughter, Christine West, son-in-law Michael West, granddaughter Katherine Gallagher, husband Denis Gallagher Jr. and great-grandsons Denis Gallagher III and Colin Gallagher who knew her as GGBu. She was proceeded in death by her late husband Capt. John R. Bushing of Boca Raton.
Kay was born in Newark, NJ on January 28, 1926 to Catherine and Edward Johnson.
Her father died when she was just three years old, leaving her mom to raise three children on
her own at the start of the Great Depression.
As a young girl, Kay served in the Nurses Corps of St. Joseph's Hospital in Newark during World
War II.
At age twenty-one, she married John Bushing in 1947.
Kay worked for a New Jersey Real Estate Developer for fifteen years selling and acquiring properties all along the Jersey Shore.
John went on to become an airline captain for Alleghany and U.S. Airways enabling he and Kay to travel extensively throughout the States and Europe with their daughter, Christine.
After moving from Toms River, New Jersey to Sun City, Arizona, then to Dana Point, California, John and Kay eventually settled on the water in Boca Raton, Florida in 1989.
John passed away in 2009 leaving Kay a widow after fifty-two years of married life. She moved from her beloved Boca to the Orlando area to be near Christine and her family, where she often lamented not only the loss of her husband, but the lack of an ocean view anywhere in Central Florida.
Besides being a world traveler, she was an extraordinary gourmet cook, and loved listening to opera.
Even at age 98, she had never been on any permanent medications, could still provide great tips on the stock market, and loved shopping on QVC!
A funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00am, Monday, January 27, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church, located at 5125 S. Apopka-Vineland Rd., Orlando, FL. Kay's cremains will be taken the following day by her family to the South Florida VA National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL where she will be buried alongside her husband, John.
