Agnes Marie Hannes, affectionately known as Aggie, went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the age of 78. Born to Ludwig and Ella (Reuther) Knippa on December 17, 1945, at home in Lincoln, Texas. Aggie never met a stranger. Aggie was a fun-loving social butterfly with a zest for life, fostering love and laughter in her family, friends, church, and community. She brought light and joy into the lives of all who knew her.
Aggie was the beloved wife of Lummus Hannes, her devoted partner for 61 incredible years. Together, they built a beautiful family, a testament to their love and commitment. She was a loving mother to her son Matthew and his wife Cindi of Bryan, TX, and her daughter Tamara and her husband Bert Blaha of Warda, TX. She was lovingly called "Ginny" by her grandchildren, Colton Stahl, Annemarie, Kira, and Philipp Hoffzimmer. Aggie also leaves behind her sister, Caroline Malinak of Giddings, her brother Jeffery Knippa and his wife Linda of Houston, TX, and her sister-in-law Emogene Knippa of Cypress, TX. Aggie also leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including many cousins, nieces, and nephews who each held a special place in her heart.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ludwig and Ella (Reuther) Knippa; her in-laws, Arnold and Laura (Fuchs) Hannes; and her brother, Marvin Knippa.
Aggie's educational journey began at Lincoln Parochial School, where she was told she could not advance to second grade until she learned English, with German being her native tongue. She graduated from Dime Box High School and continued her education at Blinn College and Sam Houston State University. Her professional life was marked by her roles as author, graphologist, and Realtor. She was also an educator, mentor, and innovator at MHMR where she enriched the lives of her students and left a lasting impact.
Agnes Hannes was also an author of many short stories, published in Country Woman Magazine, Lee County Front Porch Magazine, and The Fayette County Record. One of her proudest accomplishments was publishing her historical biographical book, Vera Kara's Family: Picking Up the Pieces, Again!
Aggie's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. She relished the simple pleasures of playing dominoes, spending time with her Port O'Connor family, fishing, eating crawfish, and enjoying the beach at POC. An avid traveler, Aggie was always eager to explore new destinations, meet new friends, and make lasting memories. She loved planning gatherings, spending time with and cooking for her friends and family. Everyone loved her famous Wendish noodles and homemade Nilla wafers.
Aggie loved dancing, sewing, and cheering on her beloved Astros and Rangers. Her energy was contagious! Time spent with friends, time at the pool, the Frisch Auf Friday Night Group and The Babes were some of her favorite things. She was an absolute pro at having fun!
Within her church community, Aggie's involvement ran deep. She was a member of Friends in Faith, the Mary-Martha Guild, and was a Stephen Minister. She was also a founding member of Mt. Calvary Preschool and a volunteer at Second Chance Emporium. Her generosity, loving nature, and creativity shone through in every endeavor.
Those who knew Aggie will remember her for her generous spirit, the love she readily extended to others, and her boundless creativity, which touched so many aspects of her life and the lives of those around her. She was a one-of-a-kind, fun-loving, life of the party whose smile was as bright as the yellow clothes she loved to wear.
Aggie's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the countless stories, laughter, and lessons she shared. Her legacy is one of love, friendship, and the joy of living life to the fullest. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate a life well-lived and honor the lasting impression she has left on our hearts. Aggie will be deeply missed yet let us not dwell in sorrow but find solace and rejoice in the knowledge that she is now dancing on the streets of gold, her laughter a joyful melody among the angels. Let us carry forth her legacy in acts of kindness, by sharing love unconditionally, and by living with the joy and passion that Aggie exemplified every day of her blessed life. Amen.
Honoring Agnes as pallbearers are grandsons, Colton Stahl and Philipp Hoffzimmer, nephews Kevin and Jeremy Knippa, cousin by marriage Travis Rice, and family friend Will Wleczyk. Honorary pallbearers are nephews, Joe and Frank Malinak III, and Michael Maertz.
