Agnes Laband Obituary

February 13, 1947 - March 5, 2023 On Sunday, March 5, 2023, Agnes Patricia (Eagen) Laband, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away at the age of 76.
Agnes was born on February 13, 1947, in Vancouver, WA, to Joseph and Marie (Lynch) Eagen. The family was transferred to San Diego, CA, and lived in National City, CA. Agnes and her two sisters Joann and Judy attended Cathedral Girls High School (CGHS) where Agnes was awarded a full scholarship and served as the Student Body President 1964-65 and class valedictorian. While at CGHS she also became a master pianist and was selected as a National Merit Scholarship to attend college. Agnes matriculated at Santa Clara University and received her BA in 1969. While attending Santa Clara University, Agnes met her future husband Pierre Laband, and they married on March 14, 1970. Together they raised two daughters, Caroline and Marie, and their son Stephen.
Agnes was known for her many talents, but it was her kind and compassionate spirit that moved her through life - family came first, always. As a young person she enjoyed drawing, mastered crossword puzzles, learned German, all while delighting in preparing delicious family meals. During her college years she studied in Vienna, Austria, and in 1974 Pierre and she were transferred to Brussels, Belgium. There they and Caroline awaited the birth of Marie. Over the years Agnes and Pierre lived in Arizona, Texas, New York and finally settled in Trabuco Canyon, CA.
Agnes was preceded in death by her father, Joseph, her mother Marie, her brother Michael. She is survived by her husband Pierre, their children Caroline (Mike), Marie, and Steve (Shannon), seven grandchildren - Lorelai, Griffin, Travis, Kylie, Triston, Beau, and Nolan, her sisters Joann (Phil Pirofalo) and Judy (Dennis Helfand) and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Celebration of Agnes's life will be heard at a future date.

My time with Agnes was limited, but always enjoyed visiting her when I was working for Pierre. She was a lovely lady with grace and beauty. She had the world's most beautiful skin. To the family - I'm so sorry for your loss. I will keep you all in my prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss of beautiful Agnes. I knew her when we took piano lessons from the same teacher. She always amazed me with her talent as a pianist. I know she will be missed by all of you. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Pierre,
We are deeply sorry for the loss of your beautiful wife, Agnes. We won the proverbial lottery when we moved next door to you two. Agnes was always so kind and welcoming-and our entire family fell in love with her when you came over on Christmas Day, 2019. Please know you and your family are in our continued thoughts and prayers.

Hello Pierre,
Our sympathies go out to you and your family. Agnes was such a dear friend to so many in our class at Santa Clara University; and your relationship a shining example of a perfect relationship.

Dear Pierre and family,
I can only speak for myself, but I know the entire class of 1969 Santa Clara University mourns our dear classmate Agnes. Her good nature, wit, and intelligence were always present and welcome. She was a friend as friends could be so dear and special in those days. When she met you, we all nodded in approval. The two of you were the perfect couple. I am so sorry for your loss. Our prayers go out to Agnes and the repose of her soul and to you and your family in this most sorrowful moment.

I have so many fond memories of Auntie Agnes. While I agree she was incredibly intelligent, witty, and beautiful, she was also generous, kind, and warm hearted. I will be forever indebted by her offering to help me through a couple tough college years.
As a child I looked forward to her summer visits. She felt like a second mother, generous with hugs, smiles, and laughter. I inherently wanted to cozy up on the couch with her. I loved seeing my mom and her together, their bond was unbreakable.
She delighted in holding all my babies and helped teach me how to lull them to sleep. I loved being able to share my own children with her. I will always remember her laugh, her impeccable style, and the way she made me feel. I love you, Auntie.

Agnes was my dear "little sister". She was my first playmate, and my dearest friend throughout our whole lives. She was always there for me through good times and difficult times. I have always been so proud of her. She was brilliant, and funny, warm and helpful. Our families shared many good times together. I will miss her tremendously for the remainder of my of my life. God bless you, Agnes. I love you!

My mother was also a shrewd business woman, a fair boss and business owner so sharp that she used to do the books on an abacus "because it was faster." I worked for her summers and after school in the family stationery store, and I was so proud of how much her staff loved and respected her. She was strong and funny and she took no crap when she was on her game.

She taught me to drive in her Camaro Z28 and delighted in going too fast, correctly asserting that her gray hair would keep the cops at bay. She was right, as usual.

She did the NYT crossword every day, and she once beat me by 300 points at scrabble by opening with "quixotic." Yeah - the next three hours were a formality.

I will miss her wit, her smile, and the way she used to pull at my curls. I will be forever grateful to her for welcoming me when she was barely a grownup herself. Love you, mom.
