Our beautiful matriarch Agripina Nunez, who was known to many as "P" or Pina, made a peaceful transition into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience through her children and grandchildren.
Born in the Panama Canal area of Red Tank, Mom would often share stories of her childhood and the adventures of growing up with 12 siblings. At the ripe age of 15, her sense of responsibility was cultivated as she began stocking shelves at the commissary to help support her large family. This same drive and sense of responsibility carried into her marriage and our home, as she and our dad heavily emphasized education and us becoming responsible adults.
In 1989 mom and dad relocated to Springfield, MA and she was once again reunited with her sisters. The next 15 years were filled with incredible memories, and many trips to Panama, Virginia, and New York for some of the most epic family gatherings and holidays. Mom, and the Tías, as we called them, have left us all with some of the most beautiful and rich memories and traditions. From our "cocinaitos" at Tia Digna's house and the assembly lines to make our beloved carimañolas, empanadas, tamales and egg rolls, to the Bingo nights complete with actual monies and lots of trash talk. But one thing was true, Pina was always at the center of the jokes and laughter.
Mommy is survived by her children Damaris, Tito, Lurdes, and David, as well as her brothers Joselito and Andres, and her sister Elena. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and a host of great-grands, nieces, nephews, and 2 loving daughters-in-law, Maria and Merce. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Brunildo, her daughter Lastenia, and granddaughters Tamileth and Danika, as well as 9 brothers and sisters.
To truly know her was to love her! We ask that as you grieve the loss of our mom, that you would be reminded that at 94 years old, she not only lived a full and rich life alongside her husband and family, but that she has now found eternal life in her new heavenly home.
A service in honor of Agripina will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 12:00 pm at the Puerta Del Cielo Funeral Home in Springfield.
