Agustina Gonzalez, affectionately known as "wela", passed away on November 11, 2025, in Hanover Park, Illinois, at the age of 90. Born on September 17, 1935, in Durango, Mexico, Agustina brought joy and warmth to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A strong and resilient woman, Agustina faced life's challenges with grace and determination. She endured the heart-wrenching loss of her husband, Sebastian Gonzalez, at a very young age. Left to raise twelve children on her own, Agustina's love for her family was unwavering. Though she was not a woman of many words, her actions spoke volumes, enveloping her children and grandchildren in a nurturing embrace that they knew they could always rely on.
Memories of Agustina bring smiles to our faces. One of the funniest recollections shared among her family is the time she wore a blonde wig just to get a laugh out of them. She had an incredible talent for making delicious treats, including gorditas and tamales, which were always prepared with love for her children and grandchildren. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, filled with laughter and the delightful smells of her cooking.
Agustina had a playful side as well; she was known for being a ruthless gambler among family and friends. Her love for card games provided countless afternoons of fun and connection, where her competitive spirit shone brightly.
In her quieter moments, Agustina found joy in sewing and knitting, creating beautiful pieces that wrapped her loved ones in warmth. Each stitch was infused with her spirit, a testament to her dedication and care.
Agustina leaves behind her cherished children: Jose Gabino (Raquel), Maria Isabel (the late Manuel), Serafina, Francisco Jaime (Veronica), Maria Guadalupe (the late Jose Francisco), Valente (Micaela), Jose Dolores (Lorena), Jose Luis (Alejandra), Elvira (Abdiel), Jorge, Joel (Leticia), and Juan Antonio (Guadalupe). Though her beloved husband Sebastian and son Enrique have passed before her, Agustina's legacy continues to thrive through her family.
A visitation to honor Agustina's life will take place on November 16, 2025, at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels in Roselle, Illinois, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, where family and friends can gather to share stories and celebrate the remarkable life of a woman who consistently demonstrated what it means to love fiercely.
Agustina Gonzalez will be missed dearly, but her spirit will live on through the wisdom she shared, the laughter she inspired, and the love she bestowed upon her family. Her memory will continue to illuminate their lives, forever cherished in their hearts.
