Alan Froman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home - Bardstown on Nov. 18, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

On the morning of Thursday, November 13, 2025, Alan G. Froman, age 61 of Columbus, OH, passed away peacefully after a period of declining health. Born in Wilmington Delaware on March 31, 1964, he was the son of the late Robert E. Froman, and Patricia Suell Froman Columbus.
Alan will be remembered for his immense, unwavering, kindness to others. Alan was very passionate about his convictions and his love of children and animals. He adored his nieces and nephews, as well as various family pets, and was a devoted uncle to them all. Alan was a huge Louisville Cardinals Basketball and Cincinnati Reds Baseball fan, and when a game wasn't being played, he would spend his free time watching classic TV shows and movies.
Throughout his life, including the realization that his time on earth was coming to an end, he never complained, and he selflessly worried about others, especially those in need and helped them in every way he could. He was tremendously, thoughtful and wise, which often was overlooked and underestimated due to his quiet and shy nature. In Alan's final weeks, he often spoke of the importance of kindness and how kindness can change lives in the entire world for the better. Alan's memory is one that his family will cherish in their hearts forever.
Professionally, Alan was a journalist having written many articles over the course of his career for several newspapers and publications. He was a graduate of Gahanna Lincoln High School, and attended Ohio University. Known for his immense wealth of knowledge, Alan was an avid reader of history and baseball books. He found comfort in reading, learning, and expanding his education beyond the ordinary. Being a history buff, he was proud to have traveled every year to different US Civil War battle sites.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Froman and Patricia Columbus; his stepfather Charles Columbus; aunt, Bonnie Kays; uncle, Harold Froman; uncle, Joseph Froman; aunt, Donna Robinson, and uncle Charles Suell.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Stephen Froman (Sandi); sister, Susan Froman; nephew, Nicholas Froman (Desirre); great nieces and nephews, Taegen, Eli, Rylee and Wyatt; aunt, Barbara Shaw; uncle, Tony Kessinger (Diane), and aunt, Shanna Columbus. Alan also leaves behind a host of extended family and cherished life-long friends.
A graveside service will be held 11:30am Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Road, Louisville, Ky 40205. Visitation will be from 9:00am to 11:00am Saturday immediately prior to burial at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alan's memory can be made to the American Humane Society.
