Alan Eugene Hicks, age 60, of Knoxville, unexpectedly passed away on Thursday July 28, 2023. Alan lived most of his life in the Halls Crossroads community of Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Hicks; grandmother, Clara Chapman; and long-time caregiver, Diane Walker. Determined, headstrong, and stubborn, Alan faced life head on. He was a party waiting to happen, and would ask anyone, anywhere to dance. He was always happy and never met a stranger. He loved animals, especially critters like birds and chickens; he had two chickens, Laverne, and Shirley. Alan also had a passion for trains, old radios, country music, and "collecting" old toys, movies, and records. Alan will be missed by many friends and neighbors. His best friend and stepsister, Joyce Stevens (Wayne), and their family; lifelong friend, Jim Norris; best church friend, Kathy Irwin, and family; and roommates, Billy Day, and Matt Dablemont. Many thanks for all the care and kindness Alan received from everyone at R.H.A. of Knoxville, especially his house manager, Ramona Thurber, and all the staff at the Bethel Place House. Family and friends will gather for visitation and to say goodbye from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm Monday July 31, 2023, at ROSE FUNERAL & CREMATION BROADWAY. The family and friends will meet at 11:45 am Tuesday August 1, 2023, at Stiner-Loy Cemetery in Sharps Chapel, TN, for a 12:00 pm graveside service with Rev. Dr. Alan Smith officiating. Online obituary may be viewed, and condolences extended at www.rosefuneraltn.com.
