Alan E. Hill, “Goober”, 61, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully at his residence on December 29, 2024. Alan was born in Rhinebeck, on August 17, 1963 to the late George Sr. and Mary (Palmer) Hill of Pine Plains. In 1983, he graduated from Stissing Mountain High School and began his 40 plus year career at Anderson Manufacturing in Millbrook, as a machinist. A number of years ago Anderson was tasked with making the glass and brass case around the VietNam War Memorial in Pine Plains. Alan was the one who designed and manufactured that case which can be seen at the clock tower in Pine Plains.

Goober enjoyed fishing, hunting for deer and turkeys, golf, and NASCAR. He traveled to Dover Delaware many times to enjoy the races. Also, he had a passion for stock car racing at Lebanon Valley; he drove in several races and would go regularly on Saturdays to cheer on his favorite drivers, which included his oldest brother and two nephews. In the fall he took trips to Pulaski for salmon and fished for striped bass on the Hudson in the spring.

Alan is survived by his five siblings, Nancy Douglass, Thomas (Donna) Hill, Mary Lou Hill, George H. Hill Jr., and Jane (John) Stapf. As well as a large extended family, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alan’s wishes were that no services be held, but rather take a moment and reflect on a special time or memory that you shared. Cards or donations may be sent to his family in care of his sister, Jane Stapf, 149 CR-7, Pine Plains, NY 12567.
