Alan Lee Houk, age 68 of Alliance, Ohio, entered eternity with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 16 April 2024.

Alan was born on 3 March 1956 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Gloria (Martin) Houk and Armand Houk Jr.  He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and his late wife, Susan (Moss) Houk.

He is sadly missed by a loving family: wife, Connie (Fitch) Houk, his five sons and their wives: Nathan and Karla; Andrew and Dana; Paul and Kate; Charles (Matthew) and Shari; and Stephen and Kelsey.  Alan was blessed with and survived by 11 grandchildren: Brandon, Jamie, Paris, Quinn, Jakob, Isabel, Elise, Josh, Donovan, Riley, and Ian. He is survived by his sister Rebecca (Becky) and Bob Baratta, eight brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Alan graduated from Dover High School in 1974 and later earned his Master’s Degree in Music Education from Youngstown State University.  He also gained his Ohio Education Administrative license from the University of Akron.  Since 1978, Alan served as a music educator in Ohio public schools where he dedicated nearly 25 years to teaching music and leading concert and marching bands for United Local School District in Hanoverton, Ohio.  From 1983-1984, Alan and his late wife served as missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators to bring the word of God to the people of Papua New Guinea. In recent years, Alan was adjunct faculty at Malone University and continued to teach privately to local students as recently as March.

Alan was an accomplished tuba player and loved spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, and visiting our national parks.  Above all else he loved the Lord Jesus and was a member of Community Bible Church in Beloit. Alan was a loving father and an adoring grandfather who supported his children’s pursuits.   In life, he provided them with an example as a faithful and loving husband and dedicated public servant and in his fight with cancer, he modeled how to be a brave and humble man of faith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Wycliffe Bible Translators, or United Local Band Boosters in Hanoverton, Ohio.

Calling hours will take place at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Sunday, April 21st from 4pm-6pm.

A service will be held at Community Bible Church, Beloit, Ohio on Monday, April 22nd at 10am.  A private family graveside service will follow.
