Alan Lite Obituary

Alan Bruce Lite, fondly known as both Big and Alsie, was born in 1946 to Sam and Seena Lite, at Albert Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia.

Raised in the family home on Whittaker Avenue, his family moved to Wistar Drive in Cheltenham when Alan was 10 years old.   Alan loved growing up in this neighborhood where he met his buddy, Alan “Trach”  Trachtenberg who eventually became his best man in marriage & his sons Steve’s godfather.  Alan was beloved by his three-generation household; his brother Glenn, his Uncle Myron and his treasured grandparents Mo and Ada Luber.

To know Alan was to love him.  Even as a child he was the most kindhearted person with a calm nature and a dedication to putting his family first.

Alan graduated Temple University with a business degree. He moved to New York City, where he worked most of his career in the clothing business, advancing as a successful executive in several companies.

His connection with people was fast and fierce. He knew the value of friendships and actively nurtured them through six decades.  There were several he held so dearly, and you know who you are.

He met the love of his life, Cindy in 1971. Engaged within eight weeks and married in less than six months of meeting, their love for each other was joyous to witness.

Married at a time when interfaith marriages were less accepted, their relationship only grew stronger and served as an inspiration for all.

Alan and Cindy celebrated 51 years of marriage in November 2022 and were more in love than the day they met.

Alan and Cindy started their family welcoming Melanie Joy (1974) and Stephen Brandon (1976). Family was everything to them and Alan’s greatest joy was being a dedicated and “hands on” dad.

A quality diaper changer (thought he was better than Cindy), he was always up in the middle of the night for a feeding.  He made sure his children studied for their bat mitzvah and bar mitzvah.

He was a tremendous provider for his family, and whether it was clipping coupons (which he loved), saving early for college tuition, or planning a family vacation, Alan led with generosity of spirit and always put his family first. He was so proud of his children and loved to talk to them about their families, careers, challenges and successes.

The family enjoyed the Jewish holidays with his brother Glenn, sister in law Laura and niece Samantha. Alan’s commitment to family extended to Cindy’s as well.  They spent every year in Iowa for the holidays with the Jones’ crew and each summer, took a lake trip with the Balbos’. Recent in years in Florida with a New Years traditions with his family and sister in law Maria, brother in law Pete, and nieces Jessica and Alysha and families.

And there was no greater joy for Alan than the arrival of his grandchildren; Jaidon(20), Sophina (16), Annabella R. (13), Annabella G. (13), Gabe (9) and  Skylar(2).

His pride and joy, Alan was active in their lives, attending activities and supporting from both near and far.

Alan and Cindy retired to Florida, where he traded his business suits for muscle shirts and sweat shorts.

And just like in Philadelphia, their home served as a gathering place for family and friends, who they welcomed with open arms.

Alan was a natural athlete, playing football, racquetball, and wiffle ball with family and dear friends.  He was a great entertainer and loved making others laugh.

An avid learner, he became Cindy’s hair colorist during covid, a skill he did so well, she kept making appointments with him. Unfortunately, he missed this last weekend.

He loved watching sports, the Phillies, Eagles and Penn State and his grandsons baseball.   Every Eagles postgame on the phone with his best friends and son Steve dissecting the game play.

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, friend – your love new no bounds.

An Unimaginable loss made even harder by gentle greatness

I only knew Alan from our brief years in Basic Training and the Army Reserves but Alan was definitely the "light that kept us all laughing through the rigors!" Always smiling.

Also members of the SLW Country Club Estates Community...I met Alan on Nextdoor when he shared the name of our now "forever" handyman. Alan also served on our HOA board, and we always appreciated his insights.

Dear Cindy, Melanie, Steve, and family,
Suzanne and I, as well as Chris and Kimberly were deeply saddened to read about Alan's passing. After reading it, Suzanne and I reminisced about the great times we had with your family. The rafting on the Delaware, the dinners, parties, and when Melanie and Chris had their tonsils removed at the same time. One great memory was when Alan and I took our daughters to the girl scout camp for the weekend. We wore the same clothes for three days. Alan was a fun guy to be around. We loved his sense of humor and warmth. Although we haven't seen each other for a number of years, we are also grieving that we lost a close friend, but we'll always have those great memories to remind us of him. May he rest in peace and may you find comfort in the Lord.
With Love,
Frank and Suzanne Barletto

Roommates in NYC when we both met our future brides. Brenda and I wed in October 1971 and a month later Cindy and Alan were married. Over 51 years later we still cherished that friendship. The world is suffering the loss of this Mench.
