Alan Edward Proctor, born on December 25, 1947, in Drexel Hill, PA to Edward & Grace Proctor passed away on July 11, 2024, at the age of 76 in Knoxville, TN. He was married to his wife Elaine in Skytop, PA in 1969.
Alan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elaine Proctor; his son, Michael Proctor (Autumn) and grandson, Liam Proctor; his daughter, Erica Wilson (Ken), and grandsons, Jack and Carter Wilson. He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Proctor.
Alan completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Lehigh University and earned a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a recipient of National Science Foundation Fellowship in 1969. He dedicated his career to the field of designing nuclear radiation detection, working at Argonne National Lab-West in Idaho Falls, Remote Sensing Lab in Las Vegas, Constellation Technology in Largo, Florida and NucSafe/Rapiscan in Oak Ridge. He was well recognized in the development of nuclear security screening products with a focus on threat detection.
Outside of his professional life, Alan enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and cars. He gave his time serving as a founding member & president of the Idaho Falls Figure Skating Club, a member of the Board of Directors for Network Federal Credit Union in Las Vegas and as a HonorAir Knoxville volunteer.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 23 from 4-6 pm at Click Funeral Home-Middlebrook Pike, followed by a service to honor Alan's life.
