With deep love and faith, we announce that Alan Ray Smith, affectionately known as "Snuffy," went to his heavenly home on April 2, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on September 27, 1942, Al lived a full life dedicated to his family, friends, and community. He was a proud Army veteran and a passionate lifelong Florida Gator booster. Al's contributions to the Perry community were numerous. He was a devoted member of Ducks Unlimited since 1990 and served as the Exalted Ruler of the Perry Elks Lodge from 1983 to 1984, where he was a member for 58 years.
In 1982, he started A R Smith Well Drilling, working alongside his son, Tony Smith, to build a successful business that has served Taylor County and the surrounding areas ever since. Tony and his son, Jordan Smith, will continue Al's legacy in the business he built with pride.
Before starting his own business, Al worked for Buckeye for 29 years, retiring in 1992. After his retirement, he continued working for himself, driven by a passion for providing for his family and his community.
Known for his infectious laughter and warm smile, Al had the ability to light up any room he entered. His joyful spirit and kindness will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Erma Smith; their children, Tina Radloff (James), Anthony Ray Smith (Tammy Searcy), and Paula Tuten (John). He was also a proud grandfather to Amber Croft (Brandon), Jordan Smith (Blair), Andrea Leonov (Kirill), Crystal Singletary (Cody), Kayla Smith, Matthew Radloff (Sarah), Amanda Radloff, Travis Radloff, Morgan Lewis (Gavin), Kendall Anderson (Karl), Cole Tuten, Heath Stalans, Hunter Searcy, Hanna Searcy, and Haley Searcy. Al is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy.
