Alan Standring Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Britton-Wallace Funeral Home - Auburn on Nov. 1, 2025.

Alan M. Standring, 78, of Charlton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at UMass Memorial Medical Center, with his loving family by his side. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Norma Jean (Bocash) Standring, in February of this year.
Alan leaves his devoted children, Lori Donnelly and her husband RJ, of North Oxford, Jeffery Standring, of Charlton, and James Standring and his wife Jennifer, of Dudley; his cherished grandchildren, Gage Donnelly, of Charlton, Alan (AJ) Standring, of Dudley, Olivia Weinstein and her husband Gregory, of Natick, and Emily Standring and her fiancé John Travers, of South Yarmouth; his brothers, Thomas, David, Terry, Neil, and Glen; along with many, many cherished nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Harold, Jr., Ronald, Paul, and William Standring, and Faith Fritz.
Alan was born, raised, and educated in Auburn, son of the late Harold Standring Sr. and Imelda (Cadarette) Standring. He was a graduate of Auburn High School, then began his career in the Manufacturing industry.
Alan retired from Kadant, Inc., in 2011, where he worked for many years as a maintenance staff member. He also worked as an attendant for the Paquin Shell Station for a number of years.
In his free time, he enjoyed being outdoors, whether it be hunting, golfing, or tending to his garden. Alan was proud of his green thumb and grew beautiful plants and vegetables - his garden seemed to get a little bigger each time you saw it! Sharing his fresh, homegrown vegetables with his family and friends was so fulfilling for Alan.
He also enjoyed hockey, and coached Auburn Youth Hockey when his sons played for the team. Alan and Norma enjoyed many summers spent on Old Orchard Beach in the camper, and they could always be found in the crowd of their grandkids sporting events or activities, cheering them on. Family was everything to Alan!
Despite how difficult it is to lose them both within eight months of each other, his family takes comfort in knowing Alan is reunited with his soulmate, Norma, and they're enjoying a long walk on the beach together, yet again.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate).
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the Standring family between 9:30 and 11:00 AM on Friday, November 14, 2025 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn, with a prayer service to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at West Ridge Cemetery in Charlton, where Alan will be laid to rest with Norma.
