Alan Jay Stern, of Fort Lee, New Jersey, passed away on February 2, 2026 of complications from Alzheimer's. Alan passed at home, surrounded by his loving family and supportive care team. He was seventy-five years old.
Alan got his BS in accounting from the University of Rhode Island in 1972, and his MBA in finance from NYU in 1984. He was a certified public accountant who worked at Ernst & Young, National Patent Development Corp, and JP Morgan Chase, from which he retired in 2009.
Befitting his job, Alan loved numbers and computers. He was an enthusiastic participant on cruise line message boards on Prodigy and AOL. He shared his love of the internet with his daughter and his love of luxury liners with his wife.
Alan has been survived by his wife, Nancy Rogers Stern; his daughter, Amy Stern; and his sister Shelly (Michael) Propper. He was preceded in death by his mother Frances (Weiner) Stern, father Jack Stern, and sister Marcy (Harvey) Finkelstein.
A funeral will be held at Frank Patti Funeral Home on 327 Main Street in Fort Lee, NJ at 11 AM on Friday, February 6. Shiva will be held at Nancy Stern's home on Friday from 3 PM to 6 PM, Saturday from 5 PM to 8 PM, Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM, and Monday from 11 AM to 4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, which provided much-needed guidance to his loved ones, or to the Kaplen Adult Reach Center at the JCC on the Palisades, which helped keep Alan healthy and social through the last decade of his life.
