Alan Luther Winkley, age 76, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, at CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born on Saturday, February 19, 1949, to Elmer Luther and Bernice Marie White Winkley in Mena, Arkansas.
Alan will be remembered as a charismatic soul who never met a stranger and had the rare gift of making everyone feel like a friend. A proud veteran, Alan honorably served eight years in the United States Army National Guard. His love for sports ran deep, especially when it came to cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and the Arkansas Razorbacks, and he also found joy in classic westerns such as Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Known for his kind heart, warm presence, and easy humor, Alan brought light to every conversation and left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. He shared an unbreakable bond with his beloved dog, Sissy, who was always by his side. His family, friends, and all who knew him will forever miss his laughter, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Linda Winkley Sanders.
Alan is survived by his loving wife of the home, Phyllis Winkley; his two sons and daughters in law, Alan R. and Shelby Winkley of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Beau and Gabby Winkley of Bentonville; his two daughters and son in law, Carolyn and Stonewall Foster of Fort Worth, Texas, Andrea Pfeifer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Hudson Winkley and Victoria Winkley, both of Bentonville; one brother, Gary Winkley of Mena; two sisters, Janell Werst of Hatton, and Carolyn Dutton of Vandervoort; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends are also left to cherish his memory.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Hatton Baptist Church in Hatton, Arkansas with Brother Gary Jewell officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Witherspoon cemetery in Vandervoort, Arkansas under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas. No visitation is planned.
Pallbearers will be Beau Winkley, Hudson Winkley, Randy Werst, Glenn Werst, Timothy Rightmire, Austin Caramez, Alan Adcock, Eric Sanders, and Nathan Sanders.
