Alan Emmett Young, born on May 6, 1953, in South Bend, Indiana, to Harold and Betty Ann (Meehan) Young, passed away at his home on January 14, 2026. Alan lived a life characterized by dedication to his family, hard work, and his many passions.
Graduating from Manchester High School in 1971, Alan embarked on a notable career as a bricklayer, joining the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 4 Indiana/Kentucky Union. His commitment to his work exemplified his strong work ethic and loyalty to his profession.
On December 29, 1972, Alan married Karen Burch, and together they celebrated a remarkable fifty-three years of marriage. They welcomed three children into their family: Audra, Karla, and Brett. Family was always at the forefront of Alan's life, and he cherished the time spent with his loved ones.
Alan's vibrant personality shone brightly through his love for recreational activities. He enjoyed spending time hunting with his trusted hunting dogs, fishing, and attending swap meets. A straightforward man, Alan was known for his honesty and forthrightness; those who knew him appreciated his candidness, as he was never shy about expressing his thoughts.
The loving memory of Alan Young will be forever cherished by his wife, Karen Young, North Manchester; children, Audra (Matthew W.) Metzger, North Manchester, Karla (Craig T.) Ward, North Webster, and Brett (JoHanna) Young, North Manchester; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenny (Judy McIntire) Young, Upland and Mark (Lisa Kaminski) Young, Carmel; and sisters, Mary Jo Young, Fort Wayne and Sheri (Jim) Lose, Williamsburg, Virginia. Alan was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may call Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. A celebration of Alan’s life will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating.
For those who wish to honor the memory of Alan Young, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
