Albert Amburgey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buchanan Funeral Home - Austin from Jan. 17 to Jan. 18, 2026.
Albert Amburgey, 78, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Norton's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on May 19, 1947, in Knott County, Kentucky, Albert was the son of the late Hillard Amburgey and Lona (Pridemore) Amburgey.
Albert's life was one marked by dedication and love. On December 31, 1965, he married his beloved wife, Carol A. (Cook) Amburgey, who survives him. Together, they built a life filled with joy and cherished memories. Albert was a proud and respected employee of Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana, from where he eventually retired.
Beyond his professional life, Albert had a passion for construction and was a master craftsman. He found solace and pleasure in creating beautiful birdhouses and clocks, each piece a testament to his skill and attention to detail. Albert was also an avid fan of U.K. Basketball, and his enthusiasm for the game was infectious.
Albert's love for his family was unparalleled. He is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Billy) Madden of Austin, Indiana; his granddaughter, Jessie Madden; and his great-grandson, Odie. His presence as a family man was a constant source of strength and happiness for his loved ones. Albert also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, who will fondly remember his kindness and wisdom.
Preceding him in death were his brothers Estill, John, Ben, Tommy, and Phillip Amburgey; and sisters Marlene Lakins, Maxine Noble, Peggy Turner, and Colene Rowe. The family finds comfort in knowing that Albert has been reunited with his great-grandson Joseph Albert and great-granddaughter Jadyn, who both preceded him in death.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Albert's life will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin, Indiana, with Rev. Curtis White officiating. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm on the day of the service at Buchanan Funeral Home.
Albert will be laid to rest at New Providence Cemetery in Austin, Indiana.
Albert's legacy will continue to live on through the lives he touched and the memories he created. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Online condolences can be made at www.buchananfuneralhome.net.
