Grace Briner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buchanan Funeral Home - Austin on Jan. 27, 2026.
Grace M. Briner, 95, a cherished pillar of the Crothersville community and a beacon of warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026. Born on March 10, 1930, in LaFollette, Tennessee, Grace was the beloved daughter of the late Wiliam McKinley Miller and Mary Elizabeth (Carrol) Miller.

On April 14, 1956, Grace married the love of her life, Berton J. Briner, with whom she shared a beautiful journey until his passing on March 12, 2021. Together, they built a life full of joy, laughter, and enduring memories. Grace was a devout member of the Solid Rock Community Church in Scottsburg, Indiana, where she found great solace and fellowship.

Grace's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she lovingly ran Briner Variety Store, Austin 5 & 10 Store, and The Old Home Place. Her passion for her work was evident to all who knew her, as she believed that her customers were not just patrons but friends. Grace's love for her community was matched only by her love for her family. She cherished every moment spent with her daughters, Cindy (Alan) Maschino of Commiskey, Indiana, and Becky (Joe) Bozarth of Crothersville, Indiana.

A grandmother and great-grandmother, Grace's legacy continues through her six grandchildren, Travis (Niki) Maschino, Dustin (Dennis Morgeson) Maschino, Matthew (Heather) Maschino, Tonya (Dan) Dye, Jason (Megan) Bozarth, and Amanda (Casey) Howard, as well as her nine great-grandchildren, Ashley (Seth Clark), Austin, Elizabeth Maschino, Price, Jude Bozarth, Drey, Jent Howard, Spencer, Caleb, and Emmalyn Dye. Many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her siblings, Barney Miller, Jay Hugh Miller, Ernest Miller, Roma Miller, Johnny Miller, Jeanette Lovely, and Belle Miller

Grace's love for flower gardening, her music, and attending performances at the Little Nashville music house brought her immense joy. Her roots ran deep in LaFollette, Tennessee, and she relished every opportunity to return to her hometown. Above all, Grace's unwavering love for her family and her ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life will be her lasting legacy.

The funeral service to celebrate Grace's remarkable life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin, Indiana, with Rev. Jerry Begley officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am to 2 pm on the same day. Grace will be laid to rest at Cana Cemetery in Uniontown, Indiana.

Memorials can be made to Schneck Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
