Lee, NH – Albert William Barbour, 94, of Wednesday Hill Road died peacefully January 24, 2025 at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.
Born March 9, 1930 in Bangor, ME, he was the son of William and Ruby (Gough) Barbour.
Al graduated from Presque Isle High School. He held a B.A. from the University of Maine and an M.Ed. from the University of New Hampshire
He was a proud veteran of the US Army having served in Germany during the Korean War. Al taught math at Portsmouth High School for 32 years.
Al was never happier than when he was working on his property. He could build or fix anything. He loved spending hours tending his vegetable garden, plowing snow, mowing, working on his tractors or just "straightening up" in the barn.
He was predeceased by his parents, first wife Irma (Tucker), stepson Tom Gough, step son-in-law John Hoyt and brother-in-law Russell Allen
Survivors include his wife of 24 years Patricia (Griffin) Barbour of Lee; stepdaughter Kathy Hoyt, stepdaughter-in-law Joan Gough, sister Marilyn Allen, sister-in-law Brenda (Arlyn) Clement, step grandchildren Nick (Vickie) Gough, Andrew (Dayna) Gough, Ben (Megan) Hoyt, Matthew (Alison) Hoyt and Erin Zimmet, and 12 step great grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pope Memorial Humane Society – Cocheco Valley, 221 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820
