Albert J. Eckwerth, Sr, 86, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023. Albert was born on November 22, 1936, and raised in Mount Vernon, N.Y to the late Nicholas and Frieda Eckwerth. Al was also known as "Butch" to his family and close friends and was a champion roller speed skater in his younger years. He was a strong survivor having overcome a broken neck which rendered him a quadriplegic for a period of time at the age of 28. He went through extensive rehabilitation and became a successful business owner of Cher-Al Cleaners located in Yonkers, N.Y. for over fifty years. He was an avid golfer, loved the Yankees, and had a great sense of humor with a quick wit. He enjoyed dining out in his favorite restaurants and loved his family.
He is survived by his beloved children, Albert J. Savarese (Luz) of Somers, NY. and daughter Cheryl A. Maro (Louis Maro, DDS) of Scottsdale, AZ. Albert is also survived by his three siblings: Nicholas Eckwerth, and his sisters Marian Cantamessa (John) of White Plains, N.Y. and Lois Mazza (Eugene) of Yonkers, N.Y. as well as many extended family and friends.
He will be truly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association. https://www.heart.org/
