Albert "Joe" Fisher, age 82, of Oldfield passed away on April 4, 2025, at Ozark Riverview Manor in Ozark surrounded by his family at his side. Joe was born near Mildred in Taney County on September 24, 1942, to James Albert & Audrey Jewel (Moore) Fisher.
Joe was raised on the Fisher homestead and graduated from Forsyth High School in 1961. For most of his adult working life, he worked as an automotive mechanic; first for George Cadwell Auto Sales at Hollister and later for Don Wessel Oldsmobile at Springfield and Borbine & Young at Springfield; before starting his own shop, Joe Fisher Wheel Alignment Service at Oldfield in 1974, which he operated until his retirement in 1995. Also in the 1960's, Joe managed an A&W Drive-In franchise at Joplin on Route 66, which he co-owned with his uncle Doyle Moore. After a brief first retirement, he worked for many years as a security guard at James River Power Station at Springfield. However, like the many generations of Fisher & Moore family ancestors that preceded him, Joe's passion was farming. In 1968, Joe bought and ran a farm of his own east of Oldfield, where he lived and raised cattle, horses, donkeys, hogs, goats, and poultry for over 50 years until his age and infirmity forced him to quit.
Joe was a Christian man and loved The Lord Jehovah and raised his children in a prayerful household. He loved the Ozarks and working the land. He loved telling stories and reminiscing about old timers and their ways of days long ago. He loved working horses and donkeys, especially his favorite horse, Trigger. He was rather frugal, despised wastefulness, and worked hard to get the most out of everything, sometimes to a fault. He like to collect and trade in old cars, trucks, tractors, etc., in various states of repair, and always had many "projects" going at once.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; a step-father, Ray Horner of Mildred; grandparents W.W. & Cora (Cain) Fisher and L. Arch & Maudie (Lowry) Moore, all of Mildred; a brother-in-law, Larry Holcomb of Mildred; a niece, Carla (Holcomb) Gibson of Brunswick, Georgia; his former wives, the former Miss Kathryn Lantz of Casa Grande, Arizona, and the former Miss Karen Grego of Springdale, Arkansas; and many beloved aunts & uncles.
Joe is survived by a daughter, Amy Jo Fisher of Casa Grande, Arizona; two sons, Jim & wife Krystal (Carter) Fisher of Oldfield and Matthew Dale & wife Elizabeth (Manley) Fisher of Oldfield; three grandchildren, Jacob Fisher serving overseas in the U.S. Army, Libby Fisher of Oldfield, and Wesley Fisher of Oldfield; a sister Cleta Holcomb of Mildred; a niece Donna Holcomb of Mildred; many great- & great-great nieces & nephews; and hundreds of cousins, friends & neighbors.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Ozark Riverview Manor for their kind & loving treatment of Joe for the last three years, as well as everyone who has reached out with condolences.
Visitation will be held on April 21st from 3 to 5 PM at the chapel of Holden Cremation & Funeral Service at Sparta. A private burial will be held later at Brittian Cemetery, east of Mildred. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Brittian Cemetery Fund, c/o Mr. Gerry Brittian, 2451 Blackwell Ferry Road, Kirbyville, Missouri 65679.
