Albert Edward Gardner III of Stuart, Florida, passed away on March 3, 2025, at the age of 81. Al lived a full and vibrant life dedicated to his family, friends, patients, and many hobbies. He was born on May 17, 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and his family moved to South Florida in 1955. As a teenager, Al bought, restored, and sold old cars and motorcycles, developing a lifelong love for both.
Al earned his bachelor's degree from Florida State University then attended Medical School at the University of Miami. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He completed his medical internship and residency in Anesthesiology, and was later stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he served as a Major at the base hospital during the Vietnam War.
After his service, Al moved to Stuart, Florida in 1975. He started the Martin County Anesthesia Group and later founded the Martin County Pain Clinic, serving his patients for fifty years. Al married Pam in 1980, and began their lifetime adventure together. They loved traveling throughout North America and Europe and boating in the Bahamas with family and friends every year.
Al raced motocross from the late 1960s through the early 2000s, earning multiple state championships. He was passionate about fishing and boating, enjoyed playing pickleball with friends, and was a dedicated physician, family man, and friend. Al was always up for an adventure and lived life to the fullest.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Gardner; his children: Todd (Lesley) Gardner, Joseph (HavreDe) Patton, Allison (Shane) Gregorczyk, and Kelly Patton; six grandchildren: Lauren (25) and Abby (21) Gregorczyk, Ava (21) and Kaya (19) Sylvester, Josslyn Gardner (15), and Graham Patton (10); and his sister, Caryl (Artie) Broaderick, his nephew, Todd (Julie) Broaderick and niece, Tiffany (Matt) Quail. I am so sorry to hear of Al's passing. we were anesthesiology residents under Dr. Joe Dannemiller at Lackland.AFB from 1969--1972. He was a wonderful physician. In fact, I was just thinking about writing to him.
Rest in peace, my friend. James E. (Jim) Foster MD

Our family was so sad to hear about the passing of Dr. Gardner. My Dad has been a patient of his for years and they became so close. Sharing war stories and flying stories. Doc and his entire staff were there for us when my mom passed suddenly on Jan 14th of this year. They are family and will continue to be. Everyone has been and will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Dr. Gardner was unlike any doctor I´ve ever known. From the first time I met him he treated me like we´d known each other for years. Every appointment he would come out to greet me, offering a hug, always smiling and quick with a joke. His kindness, caring, sincerity and love for his patients was felt the minute you came in the door. He loved what he did and the people he treated. I wish I had one more chance to thank him for everything he did for me and for dedicating his life to relieving people of their pain. There will never be another doctor like him. My deepest condolences and sympathies as well as my thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family. I am so sorry for your loss. He truly made a huge difference in the world. He will be greatly missed.

Dan will always be remembered as being larger than life. We have fewer and fewer doctors as devoted as he was.

Sending love and prayers to Pam and all the family.

Thank you, Al, for giving our hometown such wonderful memories.
