He was the fourth of five sons of Sarah (nee Seskis) and Charles Gusman, who had immigrated from Eastern Europe in the early twentieth century with their families. Albert attended Poly Prep High School and then went on graduate from the Philadelphia Textile Institute, now Philadelphia University, in 1949 at the age of 22. The following year he was instrumental in establishing the Pellon Corporation, one of the first manufacturers of non-wovens in the United States. Over the subsequent years and decades, Albert became one of the foremost world experts on non-wovens. He was involved the engineering, product development and marketing of non-woven materials, which included diversified products such as disposable medical products and diapers, garment interlinings, base materials for coated fabrics for the automotive and shoe industries and special packaging for food. On 23rd of July 1963, he was granted a patent for a chest garment interlining, which was used in the creation of the push-up bra. Albert was a modest man, who rarely, if ever, mentioned his accomplishments. As a consultant, he traveled the world and assisted companies in Australia, Oceania, Asia, Europe, South America and North America. In 1983, he co-founded Fiber Dynamics. The company manufactured a variety of non-woven fibers for the apparel and industrial markets. Following the sale of the company at age 60, when many in his position might have retired, Albert pivoted his career and became a financial consultant for Smith Barney, now Morgan Stanley. He spent 21 successful years in wealth management before retiring at age 81.Albert was a gentleman through and through - distinguished, handsome and elegant with stunning pale sea blue eyes, who was always impeccably attired and who loved to socialize. He would glide effortlessly through cocktail parties, charming everyone with his ready smile, amiable conversation and dry humor. He was a loving and romantic husband and a warm, attentive and engaging father. He was a good marksman and loved the beach, classical music and opera, good food and dark chocolate and gadgets of all sorts. By his actions, he taught his children that its the goodies and small thoughtful gestures and the time that you spend with family that make life truly special and memorable.A private family memorial evening will be held in NYC and at Westwood Cemetery in Carrboro, NC.
