Albert Lee Johnson, age 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at home while holding on to his wife. Albert was born December 3, 1948, in Post Office Holler in Nolan WV to Shirley (Ball) Johnson and Hayes Johnson. Albert was drafted in 1969 into the U.S. Army and served 4 years, including a tour in Vietnam. He was proud to come home and be a surviving Vietnam Veteran. As a soldier he gave his best fight, but the Agent Orange chemicals he was exposed to ultimately led to his final battle with lung cancer. Albert is preceded in death by his parents, Hayes and Shirley Johnson; brothers, Jimmy Johnson and Junior Johnson. Albert is survived by his wife of 38 years, Melodie (Collins) Johnson, who never left his side throughout his battles with his illness. He is also survived by his children, Donna (Scott) Johnson, Brandy (Chuck) Demint, Roger Ball II, Rebecca Ruby, Josephine (Greg) Mallory, and William (Kati) Johnson; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends and church family members. Visitation will be Friday, January 16, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the O.R. WOODYARD CO. South Chapel, 1346 S. High St. in Columbus, OH, where funeral service will be Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10 a.m. Pastors Don Estep and Dan Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Galloway, OH. The family would like to express a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful care during Albert's time of need, especially to his favorite nurse, Amy, who he loved and adored.
