Albert Koontz Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 20, 2022.
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Clay Koontz. He passed away in his sleep on the night of Tuesday, April 19, 2022. He had just come home from the hospital on the 17 and said he was happy to be home. Clay was born in 1963 in Metaline Falls, Washington. He grew up in the Ione, Washington area and graduated from Selkirk High School. He earned his B.A. in Theater Arts and then worked several years as a theater set designer. He had been living in Nashville, Tennessee for several years. Both Clay's parents and an older brother, Walter Koontz are deceased. He is survived by his brother, Warren (Sandy) Koontz and a sister, Kathy (Edward) Taft.
His friend, Scott wrote of him saying, "Clay was a resident of Turning Point Recovery Home for a period of time. This is where he got sober several years ago. Through working the 12 steps of AA he discovered that working with other alcoholics was crucial to him staying sober. He has guided hundreds of men through the 12 steps of AA. He was a very good man and we are forever grateful for him. In lieu of customary floral remembrances, the family would like to request donations be made to Turning Point Recovery, 342 Valeria Street, Nashville, TN, 37210 in Clay's memory.

Clay epitomized the term "Gentle Giant." His physical presence, while immense, was dwarfed by his truly gigantic heart. I knew Clay when we were both working at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and I will never forget the day I was in a horrible car accident. Clay was the first person to stop and see how I was faring. The car was close to totaled, but his calming presence made all the difference for me. Flights of Angels guide thee to thy rest, Sir Clay. The world is poorer for your passing.

Clay epitomized the idea of a "gentle giant." His imposing physique was dwarfed only by his stupendously enormous heart. I remember once at ASF I had been in a car accident. He was the first person to reach my totaled car. His gentle demeanor made such a difference that day. May flights of angels guide thee to thyme rest, Sir Clay. The world is poorer with your passing.

A truly beautiful soul. I feel like you shared a little with me. Sending you all my love my friend. You assisted so many in saving their lives and leading them to freedom from addiction. You are resonating in a higher dimension. Sad heart.

My condolences to the family Clay was a super nice guy I remember when I first came to Nashville back in 2013 and started going to the rooms I would hear him share and he had such a unique way of sharing his experience strength and hope that you couldn't help but to listen intensely.. I know that there are many that he helped without even knowing it he was just that type of person that you would listen to and respect.. you'll always be in the rooms..
