Albert Kortbawi

Mr. Kortbawi passed away peacefully at his son's home in Georgia at the age of 101. He was born and raised in New Brunswick, NJ and later moved to North Brunswick, NJ.
He enlisted in the Navy and served in World War II from 1943 - 1946. He served convoy duty on a minesweeper in the Asia – Pacific theater and received the Two Star Victory Medal and the State of New Jersey Distinguished Military Medal.
After the war he married Alice Bonante and they owned and operated Abdo's Sweet Shop on Remsen Avenue in New Brunswick followed by continued positions in the food service industry. He was a member of the New Brunswick Hall of Fame Committee for 20 years and was a long time parishioner of Saint Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church in Kendall Park, NJ having served as an usher for over 50 years.
He is pre deceased by his wife Alice and his daughter Susan Walling, brothers James, George, Joseph, John and sisters Susan, Mintha, Emily and Rose.
He leaves behind son Albert Jr. and wife Sandy of Georgia. Granddaughter Amanda Kortbawi of NJ, granddaughter Alysson Jipping and husband Joey, great grandchildren Briella and Braydon of Ohio, granddaughter Jessica Walling and great grandsons Chance and Caleb of North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be name in his name to Saint Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church Outreach Ministry 45 Henderson Rd. Kendall Park, NJ 08824.
Visitation on Friday Dec. 12, 2025 from 4-8 pm at Gleason Funeral Home of North Brunswick, NJ 555 George's Rd. North Brunswick, NJ.
Services will begin on Saturday Dec. 13, 2025 at 9am at the funeral home followed by a 10am Mass at Saint Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church 45 Henderson Rd. Kendall Park, NJ. Internment immediately following at Saint Peter's Cemetery 500 Somerset St. New Brunswick, NJ.
