Albert "Gene" Eugene Lewis, 72, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, due to cancer.
Gene was born in Geneva, Ohio, on September 21, 1952, the eldest son of the late Albert and LaVerne (Sprague) Lewis. He is survived by his lifelong companion, Debi Hendren; four siblings, Linda (Larry) Cole of Geneva, Ohio; Debbie Lewis of Ashtabula, Ohio; John (Katie) Lewis of Geneva, Ohio; and Lori (David) McKenna of Bellevue, Ohio. He is also survived by his extended family: Justin and Amber Hendren of Columbus, Ohio; Rachel, Joshua, and Caleb Talada of Boardman, Ohio; and Ethan Hendren of Lancaster, Ohio; as well as his beloved furbaby, China, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gene graduated from Geneva High School in 1970. He was an avid music fan and an accomplished veteran guitarist for many local bands, most notably serving as the lead guitarist for Cross Country, where he was affectionately nicknamed "Fingers." He was a lifelong and devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes football teams.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 5 to 7 PM at Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd., Geneva, Ohio. The family requests that attendees wear a shirt promoting their favorite artist or band. Smoking of any legal substance in Ohio is permitted in a designated outdoor area.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
